Things got bad... OT
Hey gang,
Ya know that new job that I was talking about recently? The one that I loved, got to travel and was made for me? The one that I gave up my apartment, cats and life? Yeah, that one. I was fired last week. For a totally bogus reason, that just HAPPENED to show up after I asked for a 30 min accomodation in my start time ON OCCASION for consideration of my bipolar medication. Now why do you think I really got fired?
If you guessed discrimination you guessed right! I am retaining an attorney tomorrow morning, but I am so disappointed. I am now incomeless, homeless and catless. I'm so sad. I had so many great plans with my new life. I was just so happy with my new llife, I loved the job and the people - it just is so unfair...
I'll keep you all updated in my progress, but I appreciate your prayers and support. BTW - I am in Human Resources Management and if any of you know of a good job, I am willing to take a look at it. I am willing to relocate and travel. Thanks guys for your support, I really appreciate it
God Bless...

Barbie,
I am so sorry to hear about your job situation. Sounds to me like those people werent that great and you would have eventually come to find that out. Good luck in your job search, I know that isnt an easy process especially when you are trying to digest what happened to you already. Hang in there!
Amy

Hi Barbie, It sounds like that job was not what it seemed like. You need to make them pay for their discrimination. I know of a job down here in South Florida. It is at JM Family which has the best benefits around and they are looking for a Senior Retirement plan specialist. They always have many openings. Go to their website jmfamily.com and it lists all of their job postings.
Good Luck and I hope you find something.

ps GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!
HELLO BARBIE. YOU KNOW WHEN THE DEVIL TRYS TO DO THINGS FOR OUR BAD, GOD TURNS THEM AROUND FOR OUR GOOD. I EXPECT TO SEE GOD BLESSING YOU THRU THIS. JUST PRAISE GOD THRU THE MIST OF IT ALL AND RECEIVE YOUR BLESSINGS. I HAD SOMETHING SIMILIAR TO THIS HAPPEN TO ME EXCEPT IT WAS DEALING WITH UNEMPLOYMENT. I WON AND I RELAXED FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND FINISHED TAKING SOME CLASSES THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE TO COMPLETE AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM THAT I WAS IN. ACTUALLY, THEY WERE MY BLESSING AND MAKE MY LIFE EASIER.I WAS ABLE TO PAY MY BILLS AND PROVIDE FOR MY HOUSE HOLD. I HAD LESS STRESS AND I FINISHED SCHOOL. SO, EVENTHOUGH THINGS MAY LOOK KINDA SIDEWAYS, KEEP THE FAITH AND IT WILL ALL WORK OUT TO BENEFIT YOU.IN TRUTH, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A STEPPING STONE BLESSING... HAVE A BLESSED DAY.
RUTH

I got an email from Barbie and it said:

Jan,
Thank you so very much for your response and support.
However - would you tell a diabetic to keep it to themselves if they needed to come in late occassionally to let their insulin take effect? No one would EVER think of encouraging a diabetic head off to work earlier than what their blood sugar level allowed them to. This is no different. Unfortunately, many people, including yourself, see that asking for occasional help with a medical condition such as mental illness as weak and unnecessary.
Thank you for your response.

And my response is:
I'm sorry you feel this way about my post. My post was my own opinion (and I've been wrong before), but I never said that asking for help with your medical condition was weak and unnecessary. I think that divulging information about your medical conditions when it's not your employer's business is not a good idea. Mental illness is a specifically covered and protected class and I don't think you're doing yourself a service by telling them this information.
I believe however, that you may possibly be covered under the ADA and I am on YOUR side in this. The ADA says your employer is under obligation to make reasonable accomodations for handicaps but I have NO idea how this might or might not apply to your situation. I also don't know if an employer is obliged to allow tardiness on even a semi-regular basis, but I really and truly wish you good luck and great success in your next position.
Jan
