I am just sampling all of the different proteins each day as they told me at pre-testing that I should start them now. Whats your favorite brand and how do you prepare it? I am trying to get some ideas. Elaine

Good for you for thinking ahead!! I love Protein Ice drinks. They have 40 grams of protein, come in lightweight plastic sports bottles, are the consistency of a sports drink and are delicious! I love Protein Ice so much that I am becoming a retailer!! Kristen

Hmm I had been thinking along the lines of the powders but that one sounds good. Where do you get it?

I received samples from the manufacturer (Strength Systems USA) and they are wonderful. I tried Isopure and I gagged. The Protein Ice has a smooth taste, not a citric-y pucker like Isopure. I called a local health store where I purchased the Isopure and they said that they could order the Protein Ice for me until I got my web store up and going. Kristen

I like Proplete Gold Banana and Elite Chocolate brands. I got my samples from many places before surgery, but liked the free shipping offered by valleynutrition.com best. Amy

My absolute favorite protein powder is Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack, chocolate flavor. It has 23g per serving of protein. I make it with 4 oz of cold water for a few reasons: I don't drink milk, I can't handle more than 4 oz of water, and the label recommends to only use 4-5 oz of water per shake anyway. I drink shakes at least three times a day, and this is the flavor I stick with. I sampled it from Vitalady first, and I currently buy it locally through the Vitamin Shoppe. They are very reasonably priced and have a website as well to purchase from if you do not have a local store. You can vary the tastes even more by adding sugar free syrups to them occasionally! I haven't tried it yet, but a friend of mine recommends Unjury. I'm wondering Elaine, are you having to do a liquid diet at all? My surgeon didn't specify one until 2 days prior to surgery. My PCP recommended a liquid diet beginning at 2 weeks out, moving to clear liquids 2 days prior. I was going to wait until my liquid diet phase to begin sampling protein shakes.

I have to go on a low carb diet about a week before so that the liver is not enlarged and the day before the surgery is a clear liquid diet only. They suggested starting protein now to build up the ability to heal easier.

I have tested a bunch... and my favorite still remains unjury which i get at unjury.com, I ordered and tried a bunch of samples from valleynutrition.com. I like the Dymatize Elite Berry Blast. It only took about 2 days to get the samples after I ordered them. I am on a full liquid diet today, clear liquid tomorrow and surgury on monday. Also the first week after surgury I have to be on a clear liquid diet, my dietitian recommended isopure for that week, each bottle has 40 grams of protein, it comes in 6 flavors. It is OK...nothing to write home about but it is only for a week. I can do anything for a week.
