Approved - Finally!

Whooo Hoooo!!! I got my approval letter from BCBS of NJ today. My authorization request was mailed in August & they requested additional info in late Sept., which was mailed in early Oct but "lost in the mail" and had to be re-sent in late Oct. It has taken 3 months, but I'm thrilled to finally have the approval. Now I'll be able to schedule the consult with my surgeon & get a date. My biggest concern is that he won't be able to do it before the end of December. We've been told there will be no changes in our insurance coverage in 2005, but I'm still nervous because many BCBS policies will have exclusions for wls in 2005. And the letter specifically states that I'm approved "subject to the patient's eligiblity and coverage at the time of service". If they've put in a wls exclusion we don't know about, I will be totally fouled up if I have to wait until 2005 to have surgery. Say a prayer that I won't have a problem getting a quick date.
