Question of the Day
Actually, I just made mine this morning for a thanksgiving luncheon at my job. My family's "secret recipe" is Sweet Potato Souffle'...it is AWESOME
, and it was proven today-
-all my coworkers tore it up--there was nothing left! Since I am on the "practice diet" before my surgery though, I could only have one bite for good measure (since I know I probably won't be able to after the surgery). I did really good today though, so I am very proud of myself! =))

OMG, do I have some dishes...
The first one that comes to mind is "German pie"=this really rich, layered pie my mom makes with thin cookies, extra heavy cream, & tons of sugar, frozen for 2 hours and then topped with chocolate syrup that hardens as it cools, home made of course, none of the store bought stuff!
Lots of German dishes bring me back home, I am from Brazil, but I am from a German colony in South of Brazil called Blumenau. Most of the town immigrated to South America from Germany in the 30's and 40's... The old South American staple "black beans & rice" is really not my thing, I miss all the pork, potatoes & sourkraut dishes, also the apple strudels... The stuff Chris B. was talking about made my mouth water! Ok, gotta stop thinking about this stuff!

Fish salad served chilled: shrimp, Lobster pieces, octopus, squid, scallops, conch (we call it scungilli) cut up in little pieces with celery and red/green peppers, garlic, olive oil, black pepper and lemon. This one will still be on my menu this holiday. Not too bad.
Man, that was good.
I don't even know how to SPELL the next thing in Engli**** sounds like scotch-ah-dah. Basically, spinach and wrinkled black cured olives and chopped up pepperoni (or not, the pepperoni is optional) with garlic, salt and pepper place on circles of pizza dough and folded over. 350º for 30 minutes. SPINACH PIES! Mmmmm. I'm not sure if I'll make them this holiday, as I'm the only one *****ally likes it, and don't want to eat all the dough-y parts.
Spinach Madeline, made with cooked chopped spinach, sauteed onions, Worchestershire Sauce, pepper, Jalapeno pepper cheese, and bread crumbs. I thought it was my great-grandmother's own recipe until I found it online recently. But she taught me how to make it, so to me it is "her" special dish.
