Exercise REALLY helps
Amy's Editorial for recent post-ops:
I just had to tell you all that I have been walking for about two weeks now and have lost 10lbs since starting. Now for some of you that might be typical weightloss due to WLS, but I had been having lots of mini plateaus for a couple months and the walking seems to have jumpstarted my "engine" again. I am losing daily once again!
If you arent exercising yet (I avoided it as long as I possibly could), you really should try to fit it into your schedule. I walk 2 miles early in the morning, takes about 25 minutes and it helps start my day on the right foot (literally
). The hardest part is actually getting up out of bed , dressing and walking out the door.
I'm bagging my YMCA membership because 1) the pool is closing soon for the winter and 2) I am too intimidated with the workout equipment and the number of people there using the equipment. Maybe I can face that situation again some time next year. I am going to join a little gym near my house that is family-owned and never really busy. They have a special right now for $99/yr so if they fold or I dont like it, I'm only out that $99 versus the $55/mo I am paying now to NOT use the Y.
My two cents...

$55 for the Y, plus there's a join up one time membership fee in front too! It's just a shame, isn't it?
I joined a gym that only costs about $120 a year and it also has a pool. I used the pool once and that was nice, but I stayed in too long to join the Aquasize class and then got cold.
Last night I went to Step Aerobics and had lots of fun there and I also am losing again.
Great post!
Jan

You have a valid point there. When I was just letting the weightloss happen naturally, it did, it was just slower than I would have liked but I've found several factors that helped jumpstart the loss again. There was a clear difference in my loss from when I was walking EVERY night compared to recently when I kind of slacked off due to the sun going down so early. Now that I'm adding activity back again, bam, 2 lbs. or so a day shedding
It is important to atleast walk. No one is saying you have to join some fancy gym or buy and expensive piece of equipment for your house...just get up and get moving, it's better than nothing. Good work Amy-looking good! And you too Jan...you're doing great considering you get all that walking in at work too!

Amy, You are so right, I was jogging and the weight was coming off, now I haven't been out there for a little over 3 weeks, and the weight has slowed down a lot! but I did manage to get to my pre-baby weight!!!
174!!
!!!! 49lbs. to goal... But cuz I am a light weight, it will probably take me another year at least...
Anyway, thank you so much for inviting me, that is sooo sweet of you!!! I JUST got an email from my sister's bf's parents, asking me to go spend TG with them... I guess you are not the only one to feel sorry for me. They are not too far from you, though. I'd love to stop by and get to meet your family! How nice!! I'll call you Thu. morning and try to make a little bit of both gatherings with that's ok w/ you!
Thank you again!!!!

You are so right about the exercise, Amy. I also feel better. I seem to have this energy that is there that turns into the blahs if I dont use it. I seem to keep my spirits up better if I get out and walk. There isn't a gym close by fut we have some equipment because my husband is disabled with arthritis and he keeps his range of motion up by working out.
Thanks for the insight, Amy. I am going to keep working at it even when I don't want to "walk out that door". I surely like the results.

Sorry to hear you guys are leaving the Y (says the YMCA employee) anyway I know that if I didnt work here I could not afford a membership. Our rates will be going up again this year.
I will definately take your advice Amy and as soon as I am allowed post op, I will be down there working out. Its a benefit to me that I have never used before - A family membership.
Only 13 days left for me.
