I feel like I am soo hungry. I have not been eating all my food--sick of cream soup and damn pudding. And I got a long way to go. Has anyone ever felt this way? I keep thinking things like.."If I just had one bite"

Try to find some things to do that dont involve food. You have to learn how to eat to live versus the old pattern of living to eat. You are going through the same emotional struggle so many go through after surgery. It is a big head game, but you have to make sure you are determined to beat it, which I know you are! Focus on how great you will feel, not how good that little bite will taste. It's not worth it when you just went through so much to get healthy, plus your tummy is still healing and out of sorts, it would just make you feel sick. Be strong !

I agree with what is being said. Drink lots of water. That will take care of some of it. Also Like Amy said....we all spent so much time eating and thinking about eating, we have a whole lot of time on our hands now. You have to find something to do with it so you don't head for the kitchen like before. You will do great. If you really do have to have just one bite.......chew it up really good and spit it in the trash. Sounds crazy but it is better than swallowing it. YOU are not ready for main foods yet at 6 days. Good luck and stay in touch. Let us know how you are doing. We really do care. Carol

Amy, I too felt hungry post-op, but I was at lleast 3 weeks out... I felt that I should listen to my body and just eat! Well, that was another head game my brain was playing on me. The truth was that I was not eating enough during my meals, and I was not drinking enough water. You said you are sick and tired of creamed soups and pudding, sorry hon, you are just gonna have to bite the bullet! Just a little bit more and you will be able to eat different things. My surgeon told me that the pouch (you had RNY, right?) sometimes does a little stretch after the surgery and then gets smaller as it heals and scar tissue is formed inside and out, so it is normal. I would stick to the diet your Dr. / nutritionist gave you. Pretty soon you will develop to another stage like mashed bananas and other soft foods. Another thing tha could be happening to you is maybe you are grieving of the loss of along time friend=FOOD. That's hard, but goes away with time. There were days that I cried over food, got irritaded and mean... It is normal. Allow yourself to grieve and the head games may subside sooner! Hang in there, we all have been through it, IT WILL PASS!! I PROMISSE!! Remeber: It is a tool, not a miracle, we still have to work at it. -Flávia

Hi Amy! I have to start on a positive note-congrats on making it this far girl I think what you may be dealing with is head hunger. If your body is telling you you're hungry like hunger pains, try drinking some cold water, you might just be thirsty. If you aren't having any physical symptoms of true hunger, it's in your head and understandably so. For like the first 2 weeks after my surgery, it seemed like my family was having my favorite foods every stinkin' night. It was making me nuts b/c I thought I just wanted a little...the craziest thing? I wasn't even hungry, I just wanted it for the sake of wanting something that had always been my favorite. I'm not sure how I got thru it other than to stay focused on the benefits of NOT giving up or giving in...and I've never been big on will power. So, if I can do it being the weakling I am, I KNOW YOU CAN. Hang in there and keep posting whenever you get to feeling this way, I'm sure someone will be here to jump in and encourage you. Take Care!
