Tricare Standard Surgeons

I am still trying to find a surgeon, and it is starting to get a little frustrating. Dr. Tenewitz office has stalled on their "insurance class" that everyone must go through before they can even have a surgical consult. I have called Dr. Jawad's office and they will not see me without the six months diet history (even though that is not a requirement of Tricare). Tricare does not have a list of bariatric surgeons. You have to call them and they will give you general surgeons--then you have to see if they have a sub-specialty for bariatric surgery. I know this is a covered procedure -- but I am having a hard time finding a surgeon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can try Dr Webb in Jax. I think he is a great surgeon and his staff was very helpful finding out about my insurance and they even have a nutritionist, phsyc and physical trainer on board to help. They can find out if you can get your insurance before you go through too much. Just ask the questions. I have ChampVa and he took mine.

If you click on the link to the left "Bariatric Surgeons" you can click "View" and see what insurance they've previously taken and call them. Good luck!

TRICARE DOES REQUIRE THE DOCUMENTATION.... THAT AND SEVERAL OTHER REQUIREMENTS...... WHAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY'S ARE LOOKING FOR IS THAT WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY IS NOT YOUR ONLY OPTION. I'M SURE THAT WHEN YOU CALLED DR JAWAD'S OFFICE THEY TOLD YOU TO BRING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS ATTEMPTS AND A LETTER FROM YOUR PCP RECOMMENDING THE SURGERY, NOT TELLING YOU THAT YOU COULD NOT COME WITHOUT THE DIET HISTORY. TRY AGAIN, IM SURE YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL
