Well, I am one week and a wake up away from surgery. Sometimes I feel like I need to pinch myself to see if this is real. I am a little nervous, more so about the pain after the surgery than anything. Well, actually I think I'm more scaird of having the stupid IV put in. I am such a baby I guess. Anyway, I've heard such horror stories about how bad the pain is after surgery, so I'm kind of nervous about that. But, I know that I know it will all be worth it in the long run. Wanda

Wanda, How exciting, It's almost here! You will be just fine ! I know we all have different pain thresholds but as far as the pain went for me, it was nothing compared to the pain and agony of not having surgery and feeling totally helpless and living my life as a hermit. I would go thru the pain all over again for the life I am living now. Keep in mind, I have still have a long way til goal but my health, confidence, attitude and demeanor all have been positively affected by this surgery. I guess I kind of see the pain as my "badge of courage" for going through with WLS and a reminder to never go back to that life again. This surgery has saved my life, but more importantly, it saved my spirit! Amy

Thankyou Amy for your reply. I do have pain everyday due to my weight and I know that by having this surgery it will help alleviate that pain in the long run. I am really looking forward to that. I am excited about having the surgery and that does help over-rule my concern about the pain. You are an inspiration to me. Blessings, Wanda

First congrats on your surgery date. It seems it takes a while to get one and then Poof! its here. Just remember that everyone is different. I was terrified of just what you said. I had never had surgery at all so I didn't know what to expect but I sure was nervous. They put the IV in after I was asleep so there wasn't anything there. When I woke up I was in some discomfort but the pain was nothing like I expected. Of course they have you on pain meds while you are in the hospital. I had a morphine drip and by the second day I wasn't using it. I can tell you that the more you get up and walk, the better you will be. I felt pain getting off the bed but walking wasn't painful. I was very tired so I didn't walk very far the first time but soon I was walking around the hospital floor. I never have used any pain meds when I came home. The worse pain I had was the gas pain that ended up in my left shoulder. (they say its normal there????) Everytime it started, I started walking. It was gone after the 48 hours like the doctor said. I realize not everyone does like this but since you don't know how you will react, try to stay positive. I know you are nervous. It is still fresh in my mind just how nervous I was. You will be feeling better really fast and your life will be yours again. I will be sending good thoughts and prayers for you on your surgery date. Carol

Thankyou for your response Carol. Wow, it's only been a little over a month since you had surgery, so I guess it is all still fresh in your mind. I really appreciate your encouragement. I am looking so forward to having my life back again. Blessings, Wanda
