I'm having surgery with Dr. Marema. I'm self pay, done all my tests, have a surgery date, and only have a nutritional class and wellness class to complete. I have never met Dr. Marema!! Is that unusual. I'm really starting to feel like I'm a patient in a surgery mill! I have heard amazing things about Dr. Marema, but I'm starting to feel like Us Bariatric is just intrerested in scheduling surgerys as quickly as possible without having to do much work. I am even responsible for making sure they get all my tests. I'm new to the board and Hate to start my first post with a complaint.. but I'm feeling a little worried! I hope I get the proper care in the hospital. I'm already spending $22,000.00... I'm so confused!! Anyone had this experience or could make me feel better about my choice in Dr.

I had my surgery at Ohio State and it was the same situation. Meeting the surgeon was the LAST step in the process. I had to have a nutritional eval and psych eval along with blood test before I was accepted to the program then I had to complete a 4 week nutrition class before I got my consult. The committee actually selected who my surgeon would be based on my medical needs...I was high risk. I felt very well taken care off, especially since it was a team approach...the surgeon was the surgeon, nutrition was through the nutritionist. I was able to do some things locally and did have to make sure they got all my paperwork and results. But trust me I didn't feel they were just trying to get the most patients...they are very busy but are thorough in their pre-op process.

Thank you so much for your reply!! I having been looking through all the profiles and am finding this is the norm. I guess it makes sense now that I think about it. So far I am very pleased with everything! When I was choosing my doc, I went to another bariatric office and met the Dr. the first day.. so I was a little worried! Feeling much better now! My surgery is just a few weeks away, so I think my nerves are getting the best of me. Thanks for the reply! Hugz Jenny
