OT-question for floridians....

This is a funny question on a wls board I know but what state tax do you pay on merchandise there? I live in canada and my friend is going to Disneyworld in January. I want her to pick me up a lane bryant bra(I have my fave one so can just send her the size and style instructions). So, I need to know how much tax she will have to pay so I give her enough money............. The sales tax in Florida really depends on the county. It probably ranges from 6-71/2%. Here in Orange County (Orlando) the sales tax is 6.5%. I am not sure if it is the same in Osceola county. Chances are however, if she is going to Disney and goes to a mall-- it will be in Orange County. I will look up the lane bryants and get back to you. My oven just beeped. I am pre-op!!!! I'm about 2 1/2 hours from Disney and in another County. The taxes are based on the County. I see that someone from Orlando has filled you in. I just wanted to say that Layne Bryant bras are also my favorite I'm happy they come in many sizes so this I can continue to get them as I go down the scale. As I sit here shivering, unable to warm up from being outside on my way from the vehicle to house.......I wish I was coming to Florida too! LOL. That is so interesting that the state taxes differ from county to county. We have provinces here and the provincial tax is the same from province to province then we have the federal tax that nails everyone. I have gone down to a C cup(finally-less is more!) and am a 38 so I will be in their lowest size but their bras are absolutely the very best anywhere! I doubt I will ever get too small for them, which is ok cuz there are none that give such good support anywhere else. Heather

Heather- I did a search at LaneBryant.com and found there is a store on International Drive and one at Florida Mall. There are other stores in the area but I believe these two are the closest to Mickey Land. With the one on International Drive being closer than Florida Mall. The tax thing in Florida is a little confusing at times. I am not a civics teacher but here goes. The counties have the option of allowing the voters to levy taxes by way of increasing the sales tax. This additional tax goes directly to the county and is generally for a specific purpose and generally for a specific period of time. This eases the burden on property owners. It is a more equitable solution plus it is a way to get the tourists to bear part of the costs of the roads they drive on and such. Because we have no state income tax, if you do not own property the sales tax is really the only direct tax you pay (other than the tax one pays on say an automobile via buying a license plate and such.) End of civics class!!

Heather, are you aware you can order from Lane Bryant on line or from their mail order catalog? Perhaps it would save you the tax altogether if you ordered it that way. Good Luck. I am still pre-op (11/29/04 surgery date), and really appreciate the info I get on this site. Take care, Lynn P.

Just to clarify...you can order Lane Bryant online. There are 2 sites though, the catalog site (which is not afflilated with the retail store) and the store's site. I typed www. lanebryant. com and was directed to the retail store site.
