Question for Dr. Murr's patients

I know Dr. Murr utilizes Spectra Healthcare for the psych eval and a few other tests, but I want to know if a patient can go through their own insurance to have the tests completed instead of paying out of pocket? I will be attending the orientation session this Thursday at Tampa General Hospital and I just wanted some info prior to attending. Have a great day! Keva

Why don't you email and ask? If I remember right, Dr Murr wants all his patients to use Spectra. I could be wrong. Best to ask him.

Hi Keva, I've already been to the orientation but will be attending the support group this Thursday. Dr. Murr only allows his patient's to use Spectra, they say it's because he knows the team and feels confident of their abilities. The evals. cost $900 and you have to give them a $50. deposit to just get an appt. Hope this helps! Wendy T.

Hi Keva, I had to use Spectra and even though it cost me out of pocket it was well worth knowing I am in good hands. Now I am just waiting for my appt to see Dr . Murr. I think you are making a good choice. Good luck in your journey.

Boy that stinks. There are plenty of very competent providers in your area. Makes you sort of wonder if this is a sweetheart deal. I was reading on one of the boards here about the cost of psych evaluations and people were able to get them for anywhere from $175.00-$400.00 and many folks were getting it paid for by their insurance company.

I had gone through all of the testing for another DR. That DR was no longer doing the surgery so I changed to Dr Murr. I still had to go and be checked out by Spectra but it was a reduced rate since there wasn't a lot that they needed to do. It was very easy to work it out with them and they were very fair. I know of 2 other people who were in the same boat. So just don't be afraid to ask. You are going to be in the best hands.
