Finally got a consult!!!
I have never had so much hassle trying to get a doctors appointment. Had I not heard good things, I doubt I would have pursued this surgeon. FYI, I had WLS in April 2003 in Ohio, just moved to Miami in July, called a surgeon, who my Ohio doctor recommended and asked if I could be seen as a post-op gastric bypass patient. I didn't hear back, so I called again 2 weeks later. Received a message saying the patient coordinator hadn't had a chance to ask the doctor about seeing me and that I WOULD be notified either was as soon as she had the chance to talk with the doctor.
Well, I never did hear from them and since I wasn't have problems I just let it go. Now, I've had a hernia since July 2003 and would like to get started on the process to get it repaired and have some plastic surgery. So I called this doctor again about 2 weeks ago and left a message. I asked my PCP if she could refer me to a surgeon, since I wasn't getting any response from the one, and she told me that is who she would refer me to...and to try again. I told her I didn't want to seem like I was bothering them....and she said "BOTHER THEM".
So last week I called 3 days in a row...the first time I got voicemail, that was full so I couldn't leave a message, but I called back and pressed another option until I got a real person and left a message. Then I called and left a voicemail the next day. Third times a charm....I got a live person and was actually able to get an appointment for Nov.22. She asked who was following me as a WL patient and I told her I wanted this doctor to but never heard back. I have to have ALL my medical records from my Ohio surgeon or "they can't do anything for me." As soon as I got off the phone, I called Ohio, found out what I needed to do to get my records and them faxed them a letter before the office closed. So fingers crossed, I am finally starting a new phase of my journey.
