Holiday party & mix drinks?

This is sorta like the other question out there about soda, but since my surgery I have only tried the low carb beer because I was told to stay away from soda and liquor has sugar and I can't do wine. I hear of so many that has tried mix drinks and where ok. I have a couple of Christmas partys coming up and love to have a mix drink but I know the bars aren't going to have diet soda for one and for two, what about the sugar in the liquor? I use to drink 7up and gin. Do you think this will be a big no no?

I don't really have an answer for you, I chose to wait 1 year post-op to try alcohol (I'm just chicken!) But, whatever you chose to drink, have one at home at least a few days before the party so you know how your body is gonna react... It would be such a waste to have one drink at the party for the first time and then feel yucky, and not be able to enjoy your night! Whatever you pick, good luck, and tell us how it turned out! I'll be curious! Flávia

Kim, I have to agree with Flavia, try some at home first. My wife is 2 years post-op and she can drink beer with no problem. I drink diet cokes, so the carbonation is not a problem. And most bars will have diet sodas you can mix, so you should be able to have a diet 7-up and gin, or a diet coke and rum, it also depends on how bad sugar affects you. Good luck

Thanks guys......Its been a year and half since surgery and I've never tested the waters except with beer. I think your right about trying it at home first.

I havent tried any alcohol since surgery. I'm going to a big birthday celebration tomorrow night and since I'm bringing two bottles of wine, I think I may try a little. But just that, a little or I might chicken out. Since I'm staying the night there, if I get sick I wont be too miserable because I can sneak into the guest room and chill until I feel better or just call it a night and blame it on the tanins in the wine. I wasnt a big drinker before surgery so I'm not worried if I chose to not indulge. But these days, I'm more worried about "testing the waters" with holiday desserts than I am wine.

I have had vodka and diet lemonaide, it was fine for me. I think as long as it is in moderation it will be OK. That is just my opinion. Have fun!!!!
