Things that Make you go Hhhmmmm

Ok so I've got a little dilemma. BEFORE surgery I used to love water and only drank coffee in the AM, like I'd take a travel mug for the ride to work and if I didn't fini**** I'd just leave it in the car. Now that I am post-op all I want is coffee, goes down easy, doesn't make me feel over full like the water does, I don't know what is wrong with me I could drink it all day long and I KNOW it's bad for me. And the other thing, as much as I absolutely HATE my G-tube, I'm addicted and attached to it (ok, literally, haha ) Anyway, I'm afraid that when Sylvia takes it out on the 24th, how will I get enough water and protein shake in me. I MUST wheen myself off the G-tube. I swear, it's a love/hate relationship and refuse to believe otherwise! Danielle -21#s

I really don't have any advice. I don't drink coffee at all but I do understand about how hard it is to get the water down. I drank plenty preop but now water just doesn't seem to go down like I need it to. I didn't have a G-tube. Heard others talk about it but only tubes I had were taken out before I left the hospital. I think I would have probably got "attached" to one too since then I would have been able to just put all necessities in tube. I just wanted to say I will be thinking good thoughts for you. Good luck . Carol

Danielle, I never had a G-tube, so I can't help you with that. But you need to get your water in, oughly 64 ounces minimum. The easiest way I have found is to take four 1/2 liters bottles, put them in a cooler and know you have to drink all of them every day. Keep a bottle with you at all times and sip all day long. Coffee is not good for you if it is regular, caffein helps to dehydrate you,by making you pee. Decaf is not as bad for you. No matter what you do learn to drink your water, or you will end up in the emergency room dehydrated. Also remember, you can substitute the following for water, Crystal Lite, Sugar free Koolaid, Sugar free Jello, Sugar free Popsicles. Get your 64 ounces in, this is as important as anything. Take care, and good luck.

Thanks for the advice Steve...I know, I need to get a grip. This is nuts and I don't know where that coffee kick came from-out of nowhere And I don't know why I don't make the water a priority when I KNOW good and well how important it is. This is ridiculous. I'm doing so well and don't want to mess this up. I have a bottle of water sitting in front of me right now though Danielle

It is good to see you post again. I LOVE my coffee and have found a great replacement. GNC has a coffee drink that has 15 gr of prot. and only 4 gr of carbs. The run about 2.50 per but most months they put them on a buy one get one free and you can use the GOLD CARD to get 20% off. I have one every morning and I love it. Good luck and stay in touch.

Hi Danielle, I think if you stick with decaf coffee, you're probably fine. I think I've had less than 5 cups of coffee since my surgery and I used to have a tall cup every morning. Now I just don't feel like it. Funny how your tastes change!! I also had a love/hate relationship with my tube, but believe me, when it's out, you'll be glad and you'll be able to cope with the water/protein issue also!! The important thing is to find a protein that you enjoy the taste of! Congrats on the 21 lbs. loss!!! That's fantastic!! Jan
