Bike suggestions
I really want to buy a new bike! I have missed riding a bike since my weight skyrocketed years ago and now that I am feeling so much better, I think I need a bike for the trail by my house. I probably shouldn't spend a lot of money on one until I know if I will really get use out of it.
Funny, I have never picked out a bike myself, I think my father has bought all the bikes I have ever owned or used (it's been a while
). I think I want a mountain bike style, but what features should I consider? I guess I could go into a bike shop, but I know myself, I would wind up with a $350 bike. I was thinking of just getting one from Target or Walmart to start out, maybe around $100 or a little more. Do any of you have any suggestions on bikes or what I should take into consideration as I am comparison shopping?

-109lbs.

Amy, First, congrats on -109. I have had the mountain style bike and the old one with longer handle bars. The mountain bikes cause my back to hurt. With the bending over to hold the handle bars. I now have one with 3 speeds and the larger handlebars. I can set up and my back does not hurt. Also, consider a larger seat, for comfort. I bought mine at a yard sale for $20. just to see how it would work. Later on I may buy a new one from WalMart or some place like that. Just can't see spending $300 and up on a bike. That is just my opinion for me.
Schwinn bikes are for sale at walmart, they go for around 130 and are great. you can get the bigger seat. lots of styles.
Funny thing is I actually paid 350 for my last schwinn about 10 years ago. I lost it in one of my many moves. So Amy soon I will be joining you getting a new bike. I already have mine picked out at Walmart.
I also used to have a bike rack for my car, was great, throw it on and go. Used to take my bike everywhere.
Amy,
Mountain type bikes are better, they have better suspension, and bigger tires, which are good for a smoother ride. You can buy larger more comfortable seats, for an even better ride. It's smart to start cheap, try Walmart, or Kmart, or even Pawn shops have good bikes at cheap prices. Good luck.
