I was so worried because my PCM (tricare prime) was so against the gastric bypass. I was so sure she would be just as against the Lapband. I needed her to have Upper GI, Cardiac Clearance, GB ultrasound etc. Since I am paying for my surgery I needed all the help I could get on cost. Saw her today and she is thrilled and ordered every thing I need for Dr Jawad and more. I am over 60 so she feels better about my having the Lapband vs Gastric bypass.

What do you mean you have to pay for it? I am tricare Prime and all my stuff is covered. As long as you are 100lbs overweight and have 1 comorbidity OR 200LBS with no comorbidity qualifies you for the surgery.

Hi Donna, I think TriCare Prime pays for WLS surgery, you might want to check into that. It's good to get all of the help you have gotten so far. You can check out the Lap-Band forum as well and see if any of them have any luck with getting TriCare Prime to pay. You can find them under communities at the top of the page.

Yes Tricare pays for gastric bypass but not Lapband. Make sense? DUH NO!!!

That is right Donna...they only pay for open RNY unless your dr. feels lap (not lapband) would be best for you and he accepts what they pay. I'm in this process right now and waiting to see my surgeon....I'm anxious to see what he tells me. I'm Tricare Prime as well.
