In my dreams I have lost of vodka & cranberry, extra spiked Bloody Mary's, Gold Margaritas, and a few shots of "Red - Headed ****s" (gotta luv that jagermeister) ... those were the days... But, now I stick mainly with water & lemon... Sooo boring. I know, I know, I am of no help!! Sorry! Flávia

Hey Amy, There have been a few studies out there on the affects of soda on the success of bariatric surgery. Results? Mixed. Some surgeons say that it is fine - you will burp up any gas that results from the carbonation found in soda and fizzy drinks. Other surgeons say absolutely not - it will cause you to fail. So, the best thing to do is ask your surgeon or dietitian their opinion and use your common sense. My surgeon is an absolute no. But my common sense tells me that one diet coke a month or so is not going to kill me or cause to me to fail. Eating the wrong carbs will do more damage than an occasional soda . But that is mho only. I also drink the new Crystal Ligh****er bottle packets. They go anywhere and are a good way to ge****er in. I also suffer from liquid boredom. I drink gatorade, Propel, and the fruit flavored water such as Fuit2O. Walgreens has a store brand for a LOT cheaper and tastes great! I also drink tea sweetened with Equal. I am addicted to Starbucks sugar free vanilla lattes with 2 equal. But be prepared to shell out some bucks for them. At about $4 a piece, I end up spending $25 a week or so. I justify it by the fact I have given up so much that this is my treat for doing well. Another favorite is a high protein smoothie from Smoothie King, or any other place where they make smoothies. The Edies Ice Cream shops have a low carb smoothie that they can add protein powder (or add your own afterwards...) to make it a good treat for you. Drink green tea - hot or iced. Full of needed antioxidants that you need anyway. I can also drink juices in limited amounts. They tend to have more calories than flavored water or tea, but again, moderation is key. I hope this list has helped. When all else fails - guzzle the tried and true water - it will fill you up and help you get in your daily allowance. Barbie 281/196/170ish

My surgeon say no, because of the carbonation as well as the caffiene and sodium in soda. I figure soda helped me get MO, I need to give it up.

So funny you should mention this right now. I decided to try some flat diet/caffeine free diet coke. I let it sit out for an hour. I was craving the taste. It irritated my stomach. Not sure if it was due to the dyes in the drink or what. I am almost tempted to try diet sprite, but I am too afraid right now. Anyway, what I drink currently is: Water (tons of it) Hot tea (herbal peppermint with splenda mostly) Arizona Diet Ginseng Green tea Crystal Light Fruit 2o That's all for now, I have to find more options. I have tried Isopure fruit drinks but the two I have tasted are horrible. I am on the search for others. I have a sensitive stomach I guess.

I mainly drink: tea, coffee, crystal light and water. Occassionally I crave the soda and I will get a cola Icee. To me it does not have as much carbonation but not found a diet one yet. If I did, I would probably have them more often. I also make lemonade icees using splenda.

I dont drink soda, rarely did before surgery so not being allowed to drink it hasnt been an issue for me. I drink a lot of what the others have suggested. Since WLS is a life-time commitment, there are just some things you have to give up and move on, but those things are based on each individual. For me, it looks like it will be bread and pizza. I miss it some days, but then I remember how miserable I am whenever I try to eat a little and I move past that craving. Amy B. -109lbs.

Amy, i just started drinking sodas at 6 month post-op. Before that it was water and crystal lite. Now I drink decaf coffee, diet coke, water, crystal lite, and sometimes regular coffee.
