crazy question...
I am just over 4 months out, I wasn't really worried about how much I have lost until yesterday when a doc friend of mine went crazy about it. I went into surgery on the 29th of June at 326# as of this morning I am at 229 #. Is my friend right to be concerned? I feel fine, I am getting in my protein and fluids, vitamines and exercise. I can also eat sugar and breads but don't very much. At this rate I will be at my goal well before one year is up. My goal is 160#. What do ya'll think? Thanks for the help
Pam
I think it sounds like congrats are in order to you
I am not that far out but I have read profiles of quite a few people that lose large amounts like that in 4 months. It seems that if you are taking care of all your nutritional things and feeling great, you must be doing somthing RIGHT. Maybe your doc friend just doesn't know much about wls. I am sure your friend means well but I have found out there are a lot of people in the medical profession that no virtually nothing about this kind of surgery so you have to weigh each thing people say.
I may be wrong. ( I have been once or twice in my life) but I think you are doing wonderful and you are an inspiration for me to make sure I am doing all the things I need to feel great.

Congrats Pam...
Everyone with WLS loses different... look at some of the profiles. Alot depends on how much you have to lose. There are alot of people here who have lost 100# in 4 months.
I am in the medical field and have been to many nutritionists on many diets as most of us have. We are taught a healthy loss is 1-3 pounds a week. Well with WLS throw that idea out.
As long as your surg and nutitionist are happy...don't worry about the friends.
Again...Congrat...18 days and I shall join you as a loser.
Pam,
I was told at my first post-op follow up yesterday that we should lose as much as we can initially because it will slow down dramatically. Of course we have to do it in a healthy way.
I don't think there is cause for concern if you are doing things healthy.
One thing to remember, many regular doctors do not understand this surgery. My primary care included! They are going to have concerns no matter what.
It sounds like you are doing great. Keep up the great work and don't let anyone keep you down.
Pam,
If your surgeon, PCP, nutritionist aren't concerned, I think you are doing fine. Have you have your blood checked to see if you are getting proper nutrition and not in need of any supplements? If that is in order, tell your doc friend you are perfectly healthy and talk about something else.
Keep up the great job!
Amy
Pam, my 500LB brother lost 100 lbs in 3 weeks in the hospital WITHOUT WLS! (he was in for staph infection and was put on diabetic diet, gatorade, and water pills)
Of course that was ALOT of water weight, but there are extenuating cir****tances for everyone and I think you are doing great. I agree with another reply... your doc friend may not know a whole lot about WLS. Congrats on the weight loss! Keep up the good work!
