I am a newbie, and maybe this is how it is supposed to be, but I am dismayed by some of the posts on these boards. Some rude, some even unethical (voting pleas, etc). Are there board moderators? Kristen

not to be rude or anything of that sort, but, if you don't like them, you don't have to read them hun! sorry if that sounds mean, but its the truth!

Hi Kristen, The message board rules were posted on the main board just today, I'm sure you can write the lady who originally posted them if you feel a post needs to be removed, she is an employee of OH http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/messageboard/postdetail/819021.html?vc=0 We are a nice group here on the Florida board, and we tend to not need a board moderator as we are all adults and choose whether or not we want to participate in a thread or discussion. If I think a thread is disruptive, I just ignore it and move on. My experience is that using my own 'mental ignore' on posts keeps disruptive posts from upsetting me. I can choose whether to read it or not. If it upsets me, it doesn't mean someone else can't get some value out of it. What is offensive or inappropriate is subjective. I'd rather apply my own standards of morality to a post than have a board moderator do it for me. I can choose to participate in the discussion or not, OH is a mostly volunteer site... if they have to hire people to babysit us adults it's not only sad, but there is a good chance the wealth of information this site has to offer will become a premium service in which we would have to pay a membership fee for. That would be a real shame for everyone who struggle with obesity and find hope, understanding and acceptance here. Good luck on your journey and welcome to the Florida board.

Hi Kristen, The girls are right, we are all very friendly here and we just ignore things we don't agree with. If we try to pull moderators in and argue, then we will no longer be what we are, we will be just like the main board. Welcome to the nicest board in this site, hon! -Flávia

Kristen, I can assure you we want all newbies to stay and be a part of our group, please dont let the suggestions or comments of anyone take away the reason for why we exist. Typically, the FL board is VERY friendly and supportive but there will always be times when someone posts something that we all wont agree with or could be misinterpreted or is inappropriate. These boards are moderated by volunteers and since we rarely have any drama on here, I dont think we ever see them doing much with our posts. I do not want this board to become as indignent, unsupportive or obnoxious as some of the other forums, cause I'll be one of the first ones to leave and not look back. I know you are recently post-op, but any chance you can join some of us at our Meet and Greet on Saturday at the Altamonte Mall? We would love to have you there and to see you face to face. Keep us posted on your progress, Girlie! Amy

Kristen, there are indeed rules about what's allowed on these boards. There are moderators that can be contacted if you run across posts that are inappropriate for whatever reason and the posts will be removed. I would give you the email address for a moderator, but unfortunately I don't have one! I believe you have a valid point. These boards were created for support and sometimes the posts go far afield!! I hope you feel free to jump in and post here all you like!!! Jan

The only moderator I can think of is Theresa C on the main board. You can generally find her posting on the main board. If you find something inappropriate, just bring it to her attention and she will take care of it. I very seldomly find anything like that on the Fl board, although one time I did when someone called a Dr a murderer. The post was removed.

Now I understand. For the most part, there will be supportive people on the boards, and a few flamers. Got it. Somehow I was hoping that these boards would just be about bariatric surgery-related concerns. Thank you all for the warm welcome!
