I had my surgery on 10/18/2004, they sent me home on Friday, I was feeling really dizzy and disoriented for the first few days home, but I was also taking the pain medicines every four hours, I stopped taking them Monday and felt much better through out the day, I had to take it monday night but that has been it so far. They had me on full liqud diet, and I have been feeling fine until last night, they wanted me to try some grits made with milk, and I have been feeling yuck ever since, not naussiated (pls excuse the spelling, spell check is my best friend ) It is the feeling I get everytime I have dairy, although I used the Lactose Free Milk it still made me feel the same way.... I have been extremely emotional the last two days off and on... is that normal? There is so much wisdom on this board, any help ya'll give me will be so greatly appreciated. I have absolutely no regrets, i know this is what I needed to do, but I do worry that this will not work either, I go next tuesday for my first post surgery appt, so I will know then what I have lost. I am doing my walking, I feel better (not so gassy) after I walk, but I dont think I will be able to make it with all my liquids today, I feel to yucky--- any advise for that would be great to. Thank yoou for listening...

Rebecca, Hello to you and welcome home! I am glad to hear you had an uneventful surgery! I was also very depressed and emotional for the first 2wks after I got home from surgery. I would cry when Milton left for work and I never wanted to be alone. It does get better though! Keep up the walking and best of luck with gettting the fluids down! MICHELLE

I am 3 weeks out and I still cry everyday for no real good reason. It's completely normal. As far as those grits go, the carbs may be to blame. When I first did full liquids, I had a broth from a heavy stew and the carbs in it made me ill. You may not be ready for it yet, no big deal. Just work up to it. For full liquids, I had fat free/sugar free pudding (eaten extremely slow and in small bits), Low fat cream of chicken soup, low fat cream of mushroom, broth, jello, the works. Of course I got sick of eating that stuff and had to force myself to eat, but I got passed it. I am on pureed now and tolerating most things in small bits. Anyway, you are only a bit over a week out. Be thankful you don't have the pain. That would make it worse (I am one who still has pain) If you can't do your full liquids, at least drink as much as you possibly can and take your supplements like crazy. You have to get the nutrients in your body. I don't want you to end up in the hospital like me because I ended up getting a virus and I swear it was because I wasn't taking enough vitamins. Take care of yourself!!!
