Private room after surgery?

Did anyone request a private room after their surgery? The hospital isn't being very helpful about it because they said until I pass all of my pre-op testing, they can't discuss registrations with me because it might imply that I'm definately having surgery when there is a possibility that something might appear on a pre-op test to preclude me from surgery. Anyone have any experience with getting a private room following surgery? Thanks!

I had a huge, beautiful private room after my surgery. I didnt plan on anything that way I wouldnt be disappointed and it turned out perfect. It also had four peices of oversized furniture so my Mom and sister where comfortable sitting with me all day. My surgery was in Ocala though, so I doubt I'm much help Amy

At the hospital I work at private rooms cost an extra 200 per day out of pocket. Unless they have no semi-private rooms left then they house convience you. The room you go to is not decided until you go to surgury and sometimes not untill you are in recovery. Reasons include need for ICU or Monitered bed. We also have suites for 700 per night...count me out on that one lol... The reason they can't guarantee you a private room is because they have no idea what will be available until the day of surgury. Hope this helps you understand the system better. I am sure most hospitals work in a simular way. They usually have one person that all they do all day is bed placement. If you want a private room and are willing to pay for it you tell them when you are being admitted for surg..they will do everything possible to give you a private room

Thanks for the insight Chris! I had no idea how they decided where to put people. My Mom said she'd pay the difference but I don't think she will to the tune of a possible $200 per night! I'll try to find out throught my surgical group, it's just so hard to get them to answer non-surgical questions because they are so understaffed.

Hey Shayna, I was told that all of my surgeon Dr Esti's patients will get a private room which is wonderful but its not something that I requested. So there will plenty of room for visitors. Elaine

Hello from my private room! I am 37 hours post-op. I had my surgery at Celebration Health, which only has 100 beds. I did not request private but am thrilled that it worked out this way. Kristen

Hi Shayna: If you have your surgery at Miami Heart/Mount Sinai it should be a private room. I had mine last month and it was just one bed in my room. I hope you have a private room.

Hi, there ! , I had a private room @ North East Flordia Medical Center... it is the hospital in Gainesville, I did request it because it was only 50$ extra a night and I only had to pay one night upfront -- My husband stayed with me so it was really nice to have that extra privacy. Do you know what hospital it will be in? I did have to pay the copay and 1st night upfront, they asked for it during the preregistration and but said it would be fine for me to drop by the following week when I had my preop and pay. I hope everything works out for you.. Good Luck and Best Wishes !

I had a big private room in a very quiet and secluded wing of the hospital, 6 nurses, 3 surgeons, and 2 anesthesiologists at the tips of my fingers...I was very well treated... Sometimes it helps to have your dad in the bariatric surgical team! My dad said the nurses still ask about me, are they sweet, or what?! -Flávia
