Please Help!

I am looking for a surgeon in the Miami area who accepts AVMED insurance.

Try Dr.Marema at US Bariatrics. His office is in Ft.Lauderdale, but he does surgeries in Miami too. I am waiting to get my surgery date to have it at Miami Heart-Mt.Sinai. Try www.usbariatrics.net Kim

I don't know about the insurance but I certainly know about the group. I can't say enough great things about US Bariatric. Dr. Perez did my surgery last December in Fort Lauderdale since they hadn't started practice in Miami yet. I try to get to every Miami support meeting. Good luck. LuvitsunnyV@goal

You should check into it and be sure, but for what it's worth....I had AVMED last year, and went to DR Marema's info seminar and was told they didn't accept it. Then, I was told as of 1/1/04, our AVMED plan did not cover RNY any longer. I am now on Aetna and using Dr Wizman who is in Margate (Broward). He is great, and I definitely reccomend him. Good Luck!

I have an information pamphlet from Dr. Wizman and he has Avmed listed as one of the insurances he accepts. I really got a good feeling from him. I live in Stuart and drive for a little over an hour to get to Margate, but it's not like I have to go there every day, so it's not too big of a deal. His number is 954-969-1355. i know he has an information session coming up on the 28th, so you might want to call his office. You will need to register for the session.

I thought Avmed no longer covers WLS but you can also check the surgical group at miamihope.com they prescreen your insurance to see if they cover the procedure, if not they tell you right up front and don't put you through all of the pre-op testing. Good luck!
