Hi everyone! I'm new to the chat so bear with me. When did you stop eating baby food--and how scary was it to change to soft food? My surgery date is Nov. 11th. Did you all follow the program completely? Thanks for your advice. (p.s. what was your favorite baby food?)

Amy, I didn't use baby food at all. I was prepared to but I made do with lots of foods on the list and added some others (mashed avacados, hummus, mashed bananas) as I moved along. I followed the program very closely for the first 2.5 weeks then discovered I was lactose intolerant. Since Dr. Overcash's phase 1 and phase 2 program relied heavily on the fortified skim milk, I had to become creative to avoid all that dairy. I must admit, I moved to the soft phase a little early but was very careful to water down foods or mix/blend to a fine consistency. I don't recommend this for anyone else, just something I had to do for myself. I also got permission to move to salads early because I was concerned about what I was going to eat for lunch at work (we were having several corp luncheons around the time I returned), plus I was dying for crunch again. I struggled when I moved to soft foods but mostly because I wasn't chewing enough or taking small enough bites so I got sick, eventually I got the hang of that. I am 4.5 months out now and I still struggle with some meats (chicken and beef), still can't do bread well (on a rare occasion I can have toast) and can't tolerate milk. I can't remember, did you go to the nutrition class already? Let me know and I can forward some suggestions for you that I saved. See you at the Meet and Greet! Amy P.S. BTW, the best way to come (in my opinion) is to take the turnpike to 429 to where it ends in Apopka to 441 to 436 to the mall. I drive that way to Groveland all the time and it takes me less time than dealing with I-4.

I bought a bunch of baby food, they were sooo bad I could not get one spoon down (Gerber, 6 months). If you want, they are all yours!! Flávia

My doctor did not require baby food. I went from clear liquids, to liquids to starchy foods, potatoes, oatmean, beans, sf jello and puddings. You will see it differs from dr to dr.

I bought baby fruits but only ate one jar. I used my blender for all my pureed stage meals. I made a chicken and broccoli casserole...put it in the blender and had 1/2 cup of green mush that tasted yummy, because I could season it the way I wanted. Baby food has little or no flavor. For fruits I had mashed bananas with some peanut butter as a snack. I also blended roast, carrots and potatoes with fat free gravy. I found my creativity and cooking skills helped a lot during the pureed stage.

Sarah Margaret, How was your Disney trip?????????????

Is this a hijacking? Disney was fun but not magical. I fit on everything I tried...not sure why I even tried some though...I really am not a fan of rollercoasters. But it was nice to know I can say the reason I don't want to ride isn't because I won't fit. I was also relieved that I fit through the turnstyles. I have a huge blister on the bottom of my left foot from where my compression garment edge rubbed. I limped around Sunday and my bosses friend got me a disability pass....but said he didn't know me well enought to push me in a wheelchair. I look forward to going back, since now I know where a lot of stuff is. I have a hopper I have to use by the end of the year. I've thought about T-day or New Years, but I think I might prefer a less busy time. I realize I overestimate what "normal" people do. My boss and his friend said I was wearing them out, because they usually go back to the hotel in the afternoon to rest. Heck, I would have been game for that but didn't want it to seem like I couldn't handle "doing" the parks. Then I heard the secretary in our office say she stayed in bed and watched TV all day Sunday...and I always thought it was sooo bad when I lounge all day on the couch. I have this need to prove I can be normal, but have no idea what "normal" people really do.

Have you ever tasted baby food...ewwww... no taste..yuck. I remember wondering how my kids could stand it. I saw my nutritionest yesterday and received my diet. Clear liquids first week then full liquids next two weeks. Good think I like most protein shakes.

Hi Amy! Congrats on your upcoming date! I am a new Post-Op about a week and half out...and everyone is right, your diet will vary from Dr. to Dr. I was on clear liquids from the day after my surgery (Wed.) thru Friday, so 2 days. I advanced to a full liquid diet on that Friday and will be on this for another 2 1/2 weeks. Part of the full liquid diet allows for baby food, it's on my list but so are a lot of other more tasty things. I do have baby food fruits as they taste good but everything else is bland and disgusting-I already knew this as I have a young son...so I knew not to even bother. My suggestion, you can try the fruits but stay away from the rest unless you surgeon MAKES you use them. It would be a waste of money. Danielle

I only did applesauce, I didn't mind the taste at all...in fact I enjoyed eating it. I haven't had some in a while but I have a lot left, if you want them...I also have bananas too I think. Tracey
