Ok I just have to share once again that today is day 5 and I have not had any cigarettes. In fact yesterday I decided nto give up the patch too as I figure the sooner I actually clean my system of nicotine the sooner I can stop these cravings. I have smoked for 33 years (since I was 11) so this is big for me. I want to be as healthy as I can for this surgery so I am determined to stay quit once and for all!!! Elaine

WOW!!!! That is great. I've been trying to quit too but as soon as I get to the "LAST" cigarette I freak out but I also want to be healthy for this surgery too. Great going and good luck. If you have any tips on how to stop let me know.

NAtalia, my dad showed me pictures of scars on people who skoked and scars on people who did not smoke... That' sall the took for me to toss my lovely cancer-sticks! oh! do I miss them darn things! It is hard, but it is doable! stay strong! Flavia

Elaine, stay firm!! I quit 1 month pre op and have not had any cigarettes since!!! My dad (who is also my Dr.) quit with me for support and we are both cig-free! Well, I told him to go have one right before surgery, I didn't want his hands shaking!! Good for you! You are doing great! You will see, post surgery, you will probably never smoke again! keep goin girl! I am on 3 months smoke free today. I only smoked for 7 years, but I know the feeling. I gave up on the patch too, I hated it. It still is hard everyday. My thoughts are with you! congrats! Kim

Some days are harder than others, as the time passes, you have more easy days than hard days. Some days you don't even think about it at all! I believe the key was to surround myself with Non-smokers! Flavia

I am ashamed to say that I started smoking at 13 yrs. old, but we are an honest board! I quit last year on my 22nd bday and did it cold turkey. It was hard at first but it got easier, but don't get me wrong...it's been over a year and I still want them sometimes--it's more like the action of smoking I miss than the actual cigarette. Cravings are replaced with memories...those are MUCH easier to control than cravings!! My husband quit for me 2 months after I did and we both haven't touched one since! It really is healthier for surgery. I had seven surgeries after I quit 9/29/03, and it helps, even the surgery recovery feels better when you aren't lighting up!! Now I am ready for gb!!! Good luck!!! Phoenix
