Weakened Immune System?

I heard this can happen after surgery. Can anyone relate? I woke up yesterday morning with a fever of 101.7. Called Dr. Murr's office and spoke to Susan who sent out a page. While waiting for Jose to call me back, the fever shot up to 104. I freaked out and called to let Susan know (hoping it would prompt Jose to call back sooner). Talked to Jose and he ruled out this having to do with the surgery (thank goodness) and he urged me to see my PCP. Between taking tylenol, drinking cold fluids, being wiped down with wet washclothes and having the A/C on me in the car, my temp dropped way down to 97.2 by the time I saw the Dr a few hours later. Talk about crazy!! No issues showed up in the urine test and blood tests are being sent out. The Dr's guess is that I caught a virus. The weird thing is, I don't have a fever anymore. I am fine. I have a headache and that's about it. Anyone else experience anything this weird?

It's pretty normal to have fevers following surgery, but not two weeks out and not 104! What a strange occurance! You should not have been able to bring down a 104 fever to 97 by letting the A/C blow on you and that quickly! Sounds like your body's thermometer ran a bit haywire!! So far I am better, but I got another shivering episode a couple of hours ago. Boy does that hurt! I had two comforters on me and waited until I warmed up before taking one off. My temp was 102 last I checked, but I am going to take some tylenol to get rid of it. 104 really sucks!

Marcie: It might be your body recovering from the shock of the surgery. I did not run a temperature but I did have chills and ran hot and cold right after surgery. Also I would get real shakey when I first woke up if I did not get something in my mouth. Sometimes my heart would race and I would have to calm down. I was told it was my body telling me I had done something to it and was afraid I would starve it. Now, I can go hours without eating after I get up without those reactions. I also caught a cold while I was on medical leave and later had a stomach virus. But when you are in doubt, always call the WLS doctor's office. They are used to all the symptons and should be able to point you in the right direction. Also be careful what medicines you take.

Thanks Martha, What you say makes a lot of sense. According to the Dr, I must have a virus and I ran a fever again today and had the shakes really bad again. I have managed to keep the fever down relatively well, but I can't bare to eat anything. But, I want to eat to get my energy up. I can't win! I am fortunate that my primary care Dr was really great with me yesterday. I should know in a couple of days if there is any sort of infection going on. In the meantime I am drinking like crazy (as much as the pouch will allow) and taking tylenol to get the fever under control.

Hope you are feeling better, last week I caught a bug, I guess its going around. I ran a fever for a couple of days, and lost my voice for 4,had sinus problems as well. The only thing was the coughing and sneezing really hurt. My surgeons asst. suggested I go to my pcp to get antibiotics, I already had my appt just wanted my surgeon to know. I had lapband done on 10-6 and was fine till 10-15 ever since ive had BAD diareah,BAD head pressure but not like sinus fevers 103-104 no vomiting,dizzyness,feeling like crap no energy. Havent had a fever in 2 days though but the diareah is literly killing me it comes out without me even knowing it. Im also putting out more in diareah than im eating (soups) which dosent make sence to me. Water burns my stomach,protine shakes burn and God forbid i put Crystal lite in my water. The bad thing is me and hubby are both unemployeed now thanks to the hurricanes and my surgen is in Mexico and no insurance.

Luckily I haven't had diarrhea at all, just the fevers. The strange thing is, the past two nights, I drank a bunch of Crystal light (the premade ones, not the mix) and after an hour I get the shakes. Coincidence, maybe, but I am not touching that stuff anymore!!
