Hello everyone! I live here in North Carolina and my surgeon here uses the diet that US Bariatrics uses. I was wondering if any patients of that office has had any problems doing the "protein only" diet or if they have any great success. Or, if you have any tricks to help you get through craving carbs. I feel like my surgeon is more conservative then others and I think that's a good thing. Also the cookbook that they sell, has anyone tried it? Thanks in advance for your responses!

Woo Hoo! Don't I know you from somewhere????? Hmmm, could you be one of my best friends that helps me run up my phone bill every month??????? LOL Seriously, FL friends, this is my dear friend Tricia from NC and she is having surgery in early Dec. She has picked my brain on my experience with WLS, but her surgeon and mine are worlds apart in post op diet requirements. If you can offer her any advice or suggestions, please do so. Thanks Amy -101 lbs.

Tricia, I'm a US Bariatric patient. I celebrated 10 months post op yesterday. I am actually below goal since September having lost 106 pounds. I pretty much followed the protein only until about 4 months post op and the US Bariatric diet protocol changed to begin adding carbs a little sooner. I lost my weight very fast following thier recommendations. I haven't tried the cookbook however I have tasted Chef David's food in class or at support. Very Good! Good luck. Email and Let me know if you have any questions. LuvitsunnyV@goal

Hey there- It works well for me and I am 2.5 months post op. I should have lost more by now but that is a problem with my thyroid not the diet. I don't crave carbs at all or sugar. The diet is easy to follow. I have the cookbook and it's great. It gives you recipes for in the beginning and ones for when you are a year out. Good luck- Marcie

I was a type 2 diabetic with very severe blood sugars. Want to hear the GOOD part? After the surgery, I NEVER craved carbs the way I did before. I never have that gnawing feeling of hunger. The protein diet is working very well for me, with very few soft veggies as my only carbohydrates. and NORMAL blood sugar levels without my pre surgery routine of 2,000 mg Glucophage, 100 units of Lantus insulin and nearly 100 units of Regular insulin every day. Our bodies change, and as far as I'm concerned? It's for the better . . . Good luck, you will do fine!

I am SOOO looking forward to not craving carbs... and alot of other things!!!!!!!!! I am just enthused about knowing about the change in appetite alone! I'm still learning about the post-op eating process myself, so I will keep checking in to see what good suggestions you all have to offer!

Tricia, I'm doing protein + veggies + a bit of fruit, and am down 64 lbs in under 4 months. When I first saw the diet plan it looked fairly overwhelming. I joked with my sister that in 6 months, I could have french fries -- but just one, and not fried. If you think the diet is extreme, you should check out the exercise recommendations. At one point I think I was supposed to be doing two hours of cardio A DAY. I started out by following the plan, and then as I got further from surgery, started making modifications that made things a bit more livable. --Tiggy 260/195.8/150-ish
