SEVERE GAS PAIN
Hey guys
I'm about in tears as I write...every so often I have SEVERE gas pains in an area I never heard much about. If you put your hands on your hips, it's the far left side (your left). These cramps paralyze me and bring me to tears, I can hardly sit here. I don't know if that's normal and I'm just being a big baby or if I should call Dr. Jawad...please
I don't want anyone to think I'm being baby.
Danielle

DANIELLE - You are not being a baby. The main reason that this page is here is to help each other. I had a lot of pain in my left side. I was told that it was because that is there area where most of the work was performed. I don't know if you had open or lap. Mine was lap. The pain in my left side lasted on and off for about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. I know from talking to others that had the surgery from Dr. Murr thay had the same problem. Hang in there it will get better. If it ever worries you to much just call the Dr. That is what they are there for. You will do great just hang in there - you will not be sorry.
Danielle, I have been going through the same exact thing the past couple of days. I know how hard it hurts honey! I am just now getting past it.
Like everyone says, walk it off when you can. Take your pain meds first, let it kick in and then walk slowly. Also, try to stretch when possible to give room for it to move around.
Lastly, get your butt on the toilet. The position you sit in may help expell the gas and also, having an empty bladder will help ease the bloating.
Trust me, I really know what you are saying.
If it isn't gone by Monday, call your Dr.
I hope you feel better! I am just now starting to feel a bit better.
Well I finally couldn't take it anymore and called Dr. Jawad who had no clue what could be wrong so he told me to go to the ER and have them check into the pain around my hip....after a dose of demerol, blood work, a bag of IV fluids, and a ct scan they still have no idea.
I am still have the pain today, just not as often. I am walking the same amount, drinking the same amount, etc. After speaking w/ Dr. Jawad after I got home from the ER he advised me to stop using the G-Tube as much, grab some Chewable Gas-X and increase intake by mouth. Still have no idea but I'll get over it. Gas-X doesn't help. Thanks everyone for all your support.

Hi Danielle
I did have those same pains about 8-10 days post op. Mine started at the hip. It is like an internal burn. I was in tears. It lasted for a few days. It was gas. I had to force myself to walk and you could actually feel bubbles of gas move inside. At one point I could only walk three steps and stop because of the pain. The pain eventually moved to my left shoulder and was unbearable. It did finally pass. I am feeling so much better. Draining the G-tube didn't help me at all.
Hope you feel better.
