How long did it take folks to get back to work after their procedures? I am looking at having the RNY around the 14th of December. I then have the rest of the year to recover and hopefully get back to work around the first week of January. Anybody want to share their experiences? I am a little apprehensive...

Ted, I had Open RNY and was back to work at exactly three weeks. I worked 6 hour days for the first three days then went to a reg shift (900a-600p). I probably could have gone back a couple days earlier if I had pushed the issue. I was going nuts sitting at home, so I couldnt wait to get back to work, but my body wanted to take a daily nap. For about 4 weeks after I returned to work, I needed a short nap every night right when I got home because I was "beat", but that eventually subsided. Good luck Amy P.S. I noticed you live in O-town, you should come to our Meet and Greet on 10/30 and meet some of us from this board, we are harmless and would love to have you join us.

I was out 6 weeks and think I needed about 2 more. But I had a problem with my blood pressure. First it was high and then low so I was not up and about like most people. The doctor told me he would only approve that which was medically necessary. And they want you back to a normal lifestyle as soon as possible.

I needed exactly 8 weeks. that's due to the fact that my body just took open rny really hard, I had never had surgery before and I am a baby when it comes to pain. It might run in the family, my twin had a boob job (yeah! I'm the fat twin, she is skinny as a rail!!) and it took her 8 weeks to feel up to working again. Although she was tougher than me and was back within 2 weeks. Boy, I couldn't do that! Whatever you do, do not go back to work before you are ready!!! IT IS HNOT WORTH YOUR HEALTH! IT IS ONLY A FEW MORE DAYS OR WEEKS< YOUR OFFICE WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT YOU! That's why we have FMLA laws. If you go back before your time, you are gonna end up very sick! Flavia

Including the day of surgery, I was out for 8 work days. I asked Dr. Jawad if I could go back that soon, and he said that since I walk alot on the job, it would be good for me. Right after the surgery I thought both he and I must've been crazy to think I could go back that fast, but I improved so much each day that it was never an issue to return at all. I had Lap RNY. Jan

I have a date of Dec 1 and I am planning to back on the 13th but only working 1/2 days for that week. The week after that I will go back FT. I am a bookkeeper so I dont think besides mental stress that it should be too taxing. Elaine

I work from home, I only took 5 business days and one weekend off for my surgery in December. I figure I should be well enough to work from home after that. My surgeon told me it all depended on what my job requirements were and if I had to do any lifting. I'm hoping to have Lap, but I have some abdominal scars from a previous surgery that he's not sure about. My friend had lap-RNY and went back to work exactly 1 week to the day she had surgery. She's had absolutely no complications and looks and feels wonderful. She's 2 years post-op.

My friend came back to work after one week. Yup, 7 short days and she was back at her desk. She had lap RNY. She did remarkably well and had very little pain post-op.

I am going back full time Monday , my surgery was 9/8 lapRNY I had the time so I took it.Also while I have been off moved into a brand new house, which has been twice as bad as the surgery. I think it is up to the person if you have the time take it. Nancy
