I have Cigna-PPO(self-funded) I have gone thru my consultion with Dr. Tomasello in Tamarac...wonderful surgeon highly known...Also I have been cleared by the pschy and nutritionist..my doctor is working on the medical necessity letter including my history of diets...also I have a pulmonary spec. appt on the 29th and a cardiac appt...for next week... I know these dr.s' and I have no problem getting a medical clearance.. my fear is the insurance ..there is an exclusion that doesn;t cover this surgery only medical necessity and I've heard horror stories..Well, I'm ready for the fight....I was hoping to have surgery by December of this year...I pray I do....

Hopefully you wont have a fight on your hands. Many insurance companies deem this surgery as one for medical necessity only. If you have any comorbidities (HBP, sleep apnea, etc) that usually pushes you over to the approval side. Fingers crossed your insurance isnt too difficult. Good luck to you and please let us know when you get approved.
