Hey there all! I am pre-op and just had a thought, (i'll ask my surgeon on my next visit-Nov. 12--but until then, I thought it'd pose an interesting question on here) but, how many of us have had multiple surgeries prior to gb? Does it cause any additional complications? I am 23, 5'4", 284lbs and a "surgery veteran". Here are my surgeries: 1987 - Tonsilectomy 2000 - Lower Lumbar Laminectomy 2003 - Percutaneous Endoscopic Discectomy 2003 - Exploratory Laparotomy with Removal of 1 Fallopian tube (partial Salpingectomy) 2003 - Surgical Stent placement in Common Bile Duct 2003 - " " " " Right Ureter 2003 - Laparoscopic Gallbladder Removal 2003 - Lithotripsy 2004 - Laser Removal of Kidney Stone And soon...coming to a stomach near you...a Gastric Bypass (since i'm a cash pay patient, i imagine it'll be in the next few months--i should find out Nov. 12!) 2003 was not a good year for me, can ya tell? LOL Has anyone had any of these, and is any of them anything like the GB? I know the fallopian tube removal and 1st back surgery were pretty horriffic. If anyone has any idea or thoughts on this, lemme know!

I never had major surgery before, coming from a long line of Dr. in th efamily, I have Hospital phobia (how did that happen?) But I have broken every bone in my body, including my skull a couple of times. I have always been involved in equestrain and love it, now I have my 6 year old ridding, but she has a better helmet than I did 15 years ago!! Plus I have been involved in quite a few car crashes. well, im glad that the bones have healed! I too have had broken bones, both my legs and the back surgeries came from two separate car crashes, people just like to hit me LOL. Never having surgeries before, was this really bad for you?

All I did for 8 weeks was cry and cuss my dad out, although he did nothing but help me and my surgery was free. I had 3 surgeons in the room, 2 anest. and 6 nurses. My dad went all out and sumoned the entire staff to assist with my surgery and recovery. He even got me to go to meetings (pre and post op) and had lots of his post op patients visit me when I was in recovery. I had a great room with TV and DVD player, my dad rented the entire season of CSI, (my fav.) but I couldn'****ch any blood, or people being hurt in any way. Made me dizzy and nauseated. Nothing they could do cheered me up. The pain was horrible and I was really mean to all the nurses that got near me. I just said over and over "What did I do to myself". So my dad administered an 'walking epidural', it was much better then, but still not perfect. But I got better and now I am ashamed for the way I acted. My dad said I was a 2 year old in a 30 year old body. But that was ok, cuz I'm his baby !!!

Hi Phoenix, The tubal was nothing like the wls. The pain from the tubal was very bad though and I could not sleep laying down for a long time........thats truely the only similarity. With the tubal they went right thru my bell button and almost no scarring at all. I wish you the best when its time for you surgery! Michelle
