I'm in the Tampa Bay area and I'm considering the surgery. What is your honest opinion of Dr. Murr? I wanted to attend the orientation on Thursday, but I won't be able to, so I plan to attend the meeting in November. I would appreciate any advice or information you can give me. Thanks!

Hi Keva- My totally honest opinion is that Dr. Murr and his staff are the BOMB! I can think of nothing negative to say about the entire process. If you read my profile I have most of it written in there. I know a lot of people that have used Dr. Murr before and after me that think the world of him! I would use him again tomorrow if need be!!! He truly cares about his patients. Best of luck to you and feel free to email me w/any questions you have! Lori

Keva, My surgery was on 9/22/04. My surgery was very complicated and I was lucky that we had such a skilled surgeon in Tampa. I thought I was going to have to go to Mayo clinic in Rochester. In fact the people at Mayo told us about Dr. Murr! I had a revision of a 35 year old bypass. I had to have the old procedure taken down. Not many want to do that surgery. I was in the hospital for 11 days, much longer than a regular bypass procedure because my complication was the old experimental, 35 year old bypass was damaging my only working kidney. I have never before been in a hospital where everyone works together for the comfort of the patient. Dr. Murr's Staff is top notch. I have been home a week. I have a feeding tube to insure that I am getting in the right amount of nutrients and have HHC Nurses twice a day changing my dressings. Again...mine is not the normal gastric bypass, But I am confident that I am in good hands. If you pick Dr. Murr and his staff you have picked the best! Rosey

Thank you for sharing. I wish you the best in your recovery. I really want Dr. Murr, so hopefully my primary care physican will agree. Plus I like the fact that he is at Tampa General. Thanks again!

I had the surgery with Dr. Murr on 8/17. I have since lost 57 pounds and instead of using 200-300 units of insulin per day I'm down to about 20 units ever 6th or 7th day. I looked into a total of 4 Dr's, going through the meetings and resarch. You will not find a better Dr. His staff is first class and Tampa General Hospital if fantastic. You should do your homework but you still won't find a better Dr.

THanks. From the research I've completed thus far, I'm really leaning toward him, plus I like the idea of being in Tampa General moreso than a smaller center. I also like how the program is set up. I'm also diabetic, but I'm not on insulin. I was on insulin when I was pregnant and I didn't enjoy it (the shots twice a day). I wish you continued success. I truly appreciate you taking time to respond to me.
