The board is a little slow this weekend so I thought I would post about my Saturday morning. I got up early which isn't easy on a day off, but it was well worth it. I went to a local high school that was the venue for the Florida Special Olympics Aquatics competition. I volunteered from 8am-1230pm with several of my co-workers, we were assigned to working in the Awards area. It was amazing to see how excited the athletes were on the winning block. They hooted, hollered, grinned from ear to ear and some even kissed their medals. It was as special as watching the athletes in the regular Olympics. Those athletes each had 30 seconds of glory and they loved every bit of it. As endearing as all that was, I must admit I think the most touching moment was when one of the athletes told me I was beautiful and looked like I was 18. I hated to admit to him that I am more than twice that old, but loved it anyway. This was the third time I have volunteered with them and each time I leave with so many great emotions. I love the interactions between the parents and kids (some adult kids too), coaches and athletes, and the dedication of the employees and volunteers. If you ever have the chance to volunteer and give a little of your time or talents, I highly recommend doing so. Thanks for letting me give a little weekend commentary. Have a great Sunday! Amy -98lbs.

Amy, that sounds like it was such a blessing. And you sound like such a blessing to those kids. That is wonderful that you do that. And by the way, WOW....you've lost 98 pounds in 4 months! That is so cool. Congratulation. You are almost to the century club. Wanda

You're down 98 lbs.?????? I'm not going to know you, girl!!! What a huge accomplishment!! I had been losing about 1 lb. a day, but that's going to slow down very soon. I do better with the grandmas and grandpas, but I'm so glad some people like to work with kids of all ages like you do! What a blessing! Jan
