Denied - wanted to let you know

Hi, I put this on the main message board yesterday but wanted my Florida Friends to know too. Aetna has denied my 1st request. I am not giving up and am working on the appeal as we speak. Thanks for all your support and prayers! Terri

Sorry to hear about the denial but don't give up. Sometimes we just have to work a little harder for what we want. Just start your appeal and be very thorough about how it is to be so unhealthy. It is hard sometimes for us to admit but we really do need this surgery when we get as obese as I am. Good luck in your journey and stay in contact with this board. they are very helpful. Carol

Did they state why they denied you? If you've been around here long enough you will note that sometimes people are denied for paperwork you gave your surgeon but wasn't submitted, wrong insurance codes being submitted, etc. One woman even had her approval submitted in her husband's name by accident and it got denied because the patient name and records didn't match. Good luck in your appeal and please know we are all hoping and praying for you!

I also have Aetna. When I sent in my paperwork I followed up by calling them. They had a couple of questions that I needed to address. They never really turned me down they just put it on hold for me to get them the answers. The insurance companies are not always bad guys. Call them and be nice just tell them that you understand there may be something else needed and you want to make sure you get it for them. Then if that fails then you scream. Good luck and hang in there. It is a problem that you will make it through.

Terri, Aetna sucks.....Keep fighting, make the bast**ds pay. They didn't cover my surgery, make them cover yours. steve

Terri, not long ago Florida Hospital in Orlando offered WLS to "outside" patients so to speak and did not permit their own employees or relatives to have WLS as they deemed it too risky. I guess paying for all the other health issues is cheaper in the long run. Good Luck and give em hell Ma

A phone call to then is a great idea. That way you can ask just what they need.
