Does anyone know of any Lap Band Doctors in Florida that accept Tricare? Has anyone been approved for this procedure with Tricare? Thanks, Brandi

Hi Brandi, I am in the process of getting approved for RNY via Tricare. I have never heard of this insurance accepting the Lapband proceedure for approval and was told by my own insurance that they do not. TriCare will only approve the Open RNY and will not even approve Laparoscopic Gastric bypass surgery. Anyway from my extensive knowledge...No Tricare will not cover Lapband. Good luck on your journey kirsten

i have tricare and was approved very easily with it, but there is a list of things tricare requires for approval, some blood work, psych eval and nutritional eval. im not getting the band im having rny. DR Nye in pensacola. i think theres a few more in this area that tricare uses. but i would suggest him unless you insist on the band. hes been doing the surgery since 1978 and i only hear good things about him. ive only seen him once but him and his staff were awesome. and my surgery is oct 15.

I know that Tricare covers RNY. And I go to the informational meeting and start the testing later this month. However a friend of mine passed away Friday because of complications from her RNY on Thursday. I was planning on using the same surgeon. I'm a bit apprehensive now because of this and have begun to think of maybe getting the band instead. I have met others on here who were approved somehow for the lap band with Tricare. One is a lady in Texas. I would prefer not to have to go all the way to Texas to have surgery. I was just wondering if anyone with Tricare had been approved for the band in Florida? Thanks, Brandi
