Question about drain tube
My sister in law had gastric bypass surgery, lap, done on August 9th in Huntsville, Alabama. She is telling me that no one should go home with a drain tube. But, from what I have read on here most people do go home with a drain tube. She had hers out while in the hospital. Is there a difference in how long the tube has to stay in when you have open compared to lap?
Thanks,
Wanda
Wanda, there are many types of tubes that you might have after surgery. If you are asking about a drain tube, this is a tube that allows fluid that has build up, to drain out. Not everyone who has open has one. My surgeon only does open and most of his patients don't get a drain tube. So it's best to check with your surgeon, to see if he normally uses them, and if he thinks you will need one. Good luck, Steve
