Surgery more than once?

Has anyone here ever had surgery more than one time? I had a gastric bypass 20 years ago and have gained everything back. I eat like a normal well abnormal person...can eat as much as anyone else at a sitting. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or was able to find a doctor willing to help.

Hey Cindi, I read your profile and your BMI is below 40. Isn't one of the requirements that your BMI is over 40? Let me know if you ever want to meet since we are both from Boca. Hope to talk to you soon! Christine -70

thanks for your response. I really don't know what today's requirements are 20 years ago I think it was 30 or above

I'm a pre-op, but my understanding is that the weight loss surgeries performed 20 years ago have, for the most part, failed most patients who had them. I would start off by going to a surgeon and asking if he can check for staple line disruption which is common to surgeries of that many years ago. From what I've read, many many people have been successful in getting a second surgery performed if they had surgery years ago. There is a revision community here at ObesityHelp, you can click on the word COMMUNITIES up above and scroll down the list of message boards until you find it. Good luck!

Cindy, there are many doctors that will do a revision, Dr. Haicken in Largo is one of them. Find one of these surgeons and talk to them.

Hi there! I would recommend seeing a new surgeon for the revision work. Actually, I am trying to get my grandfather to do it. Both of my grandparents had the surgery about 20 years ago and while it's worked for my grandmother (for the most part anyway), my grandfather is HUGE again. I really think something is wrong "in there" and am trying to tactfully encourage him to go get it checked. Best of luck you! Danielle
