Surgeon Advise
Hi all. This is my very first post on this site. I am looking for the best surgeon around the Orlando area. I have seen Dr. Overcash & most recently, Dr. Kim with US Bariatrics in Celebration. I liked Dr. Kim, the only problem is that he is not contracted with Aetna & I would have to pay 30% out of pocket for his fees. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Stepheny,
Welcome to the posting board. Your gonna love it here. I am in Orlando and was in your same situation. I just had my surgery done 4 days ago by Dr. Jawad is Ocala. Not only is he the closest.. but the best. I did allot of homework on him and he was the best selection. Research him... you will be impressed.
Good Luck
Kimie

Thank you for your email. I had an appointment w/ Dr. Jawad yesterday but had to cancel. I was concerned because in the information package that I received from his office, it said that he only uses a staple line to form the pouch instead of separating it completely? Is that what you had done & did he do it Lap? From all of the research that I've done, I don't know if the staple method works as well longterm.
Welcome Stepheny
I am having the lapband wls and my doctor is Lee Grossbard in Zephyrhills, he only does the lapband. My aunt is having her RNY surgery done by Dr. Kim and I hear he is very good (medicaid hmo is covering the cost). Unfortunately, we don't have very many doctor's to choose from in our area. My biggest concern was the surgeon's skills and his after care program, I would have driven as far as it took to get it.
Good luck in your research.
Lovetta

Stepheny, I have Aetna insurance AND I had Dr. Jawad for a surgeon. He really IS the best in this area. The MOST important thing about him is that when he goes over all the possible complications and tells you about the ones he has experienced, you will see that his numbers are FAR, FAR below the national average. You can pretty must rest assured your experience will be problem-free (no guarantees, though!) and the hospital he uses (Ocala Regional) has an excellent bariatric program, so no worries about sizes of gowns, sizes of beds, etc. The hospital even gave me a wonderful manual hiney-wiper!!!! (TMI, but it's the little things that count!) Dr. Jawad is worth the drive! Email me if you like for specific questions.
