I'm Approved on the first try!!
YAAAAA HOOOOO!! I've been approved!! 
I called my surgeon's insurance gal a couple of times to get confirmation that BCBS received my pre-approval packet (I was worried it would get lost in the mail.) She said she usually waits 2 weeks to check on things, to give them time to receive & post it. So I waited. The with everything going on around here with Hurricane Francis I decided to wait and call again on Monday (9/13) to see if she'd heard anything. She said she'd check with BCBS but it would be Wed. (9/15) before she could get back to me.
I got a message from my surgeon's office this afternoon that BCBS has approved my surgery and they mailed the approval letter to me on 9/13/04. As soon as I recieve the letter I need to take it to the surgeon's office and they'll schedule my first visit with him. If all goes well, I hope to have surgery in late October.
I'm VERY impressed with Horizon BCBS of NJ. The surgeon's office mailed (as in "snail-mail") my packet on Monday, 8/20/04, so if I was appoved on Monday 9/13/04 it only took 3 weeks to get approved - including time in the mail. Not bad!!
I'm SO excited!! 
Now I'll just have to pray that Hurricane Ivan doesn't cause the approval letter to get lost on its way from NJ to FL.
