I've seen several folks post that their surgeons required a liquid diet before surgery. Can anyone tell me why? I'm just curious b/c the surgeon I want to use does not require it and neither does the other wl surgeon in Tallahassee. Enquiring minds want to know!! Thanks! Tallahassee Lassie

I think it has to do with shrinking and firming your liver so it is easier for them to work. I have a surgeon that use to adhere to that but he says now it is not got to be ALL LIQUID just no fat and such that would make your liver stay enlarged. (which I didn't know they did anyway). Hopes that helps.

Carol, you mentioned No-Fat...my surgeon uses a Low-Carb liquid diet two weeks before. For about a month before you can have regular food but it has be low carb. Isn't it interesting how all the surgeons vary? Danielle

Yes, all surgeons have their own thoughts. It is kind of amazing since we are all having basically the same operation. I guess as long as it works...........

I didn't have a preop diet but I started protein drinks about 6 wks before surgery. The extra protein will help the healing process. Post op it will be several days before you get any protein. Luvit~SunnyV@goal

Hi Vickie! My surgeon put me on a no-carb, all protein diet for 2 weeks before surgery to shrink my liver. Every surgeon seems to follow a different nutrition plan. Good Luck, Erika L

I did the pre-op liquid diet for two weeks and I'm happy I did ! I loss 16 lbs in 9 days on it. I had been doing low-carb diet since Feb and walking a lot. I loss 20 lbs doing that, took 6 months THEN by doing the liquid diet for TWO weeks before surgery and walking, I loss another 20 lbs! so I dropped 40 lbs before surgery to get my body in good shape for the surgery. I had NO Pain at all from the surgery! (my back really hurt, though). I went to sleep at 11:30-12:00 at night in the hospital and up walking the halls by 4:30a.m. or 6:00a.m. I tried to walk every hour all day long. I JUST HAD SURGERY FIVE DAYS AGO > STILL NO PAIN> WAS AT HOSPITAL THREE DAYS
