WLS and Ethinic Orgin

I am seeking to have the lapband. I was reading on another website that African American women do not do as well as other ethnic groups with wls. I have only read it that one time so I'm not sure how much validity the website has. I was wondering if anyone else has ever come across this? I'm not scheduled for consult until October, but I will be sure to ask Dr. Grossbard. Thanks in advance for any in site you all might have. Lovetta, Hmmm, that's a new one to me. Sounds like a whacky case study to me . I don't know how being any particular ethnicity could impact WLS but I could be wrong. Lapband, as well as any other form of WLS, restricts the amount of food (and other essentials) we take in, so I would think everyone would lose weight unless there were other medical ailments involved that prevented weightloss. I do know others have said that having insulin resistance or hormonal problems (like Polycystic ovarian syndrome) can influence how quickly they lose, but they still lose weight. Ask your doctor, but I wouldn't worry much about it and just focus on moving forward. If you haven't visited there yet, there is a Lapband community on here too, they might be able to give you more advice, but PLEASE stay a part of our group too . The next Central FL Meet and Greet will be at the end of October. There are a few other groups that meet monthly, watch for the posts on here for dates and locations. I think the hurricanes have put a stop to some of the more recent ones, but someone will post one soon. In regards to your other question about docs in Mexico, there may be a forum for that too. I believe one of guys who posts here occasionally is there now having surgery, hopefully he will post when he returns so you can ask him questions.
