I had surgery there this past July 7,'04. Dr. Marema of U.S. Bariatrics was my surgeon. I had a private room with a waterfront view. They brought in a cot for my husband who spent 5 nights with me. The staff was great, they have so much experience with Bariatric patients. They have a regular routine of checking on you so I basically just went along with the program. I had to be admitted 2 days prior to surgery to go on Heparin, I have a mechanical valve in my heart . I stayed a total of 7 days and had a Lap. The normal stay for Lap is about 4 days I was on a Morphine pump, I would have preferred Demerol. I was in tremendous pain post-op, this surgery is no cake walk. The nurse from U.S Bariatrics checked on me daily as did my surgeon. I was quite educated by the time I went in as to what was necessary post op and how to help my recovery. Walking is a must to prevent blood clots, and drink your water. I started on a puree diet on day 2. I had my husband by my side, my sister, brother in law and my two sons to help me. I am so lucky. You will be in good hands at the Heart Institute. Good Luck on your journey. I am down 46 lbs in 8 weeks. Horayyyyyyyyy margaret
