This Isn't Working
Ok, time for me to do some whining
I started my Pre-Op diet today AND attempted to quit smoking. Can I say it's not going so well giving both up at a time when I'm stressed to the max?!?!?!
The food isn't a big deal, I can deal with the shake for breakfast and lunch-just need to distrct myself from any
snacking. The problem...rather than snacking I used to smoke?!?!?!?!
Now I can't do either and I'm going
I have got to get a grip though-whether I want to or not I have to stop smoking or I'll be the dorko that dies from her "self-induced" pulmonary embolism all b/c she couldn't stop her nasty habit
And as for the diet, well that's playing on my mind b/c I don't know if my liver is enlarged or not
so can I ask, is it going to be detrimental if I cheat from time to time? This is turning out to be harder than I though-maybe I'm not cut out for this surgery
if I can't even get it together Pre-Op

Danielle, as far asw eating goes, it's actually harder pre-op than post-op. After you have your surgery, you have your new stomach to help you keep from eating, pre-op you have no help. The hardest thing to do is quit smoking, I did it 5 years ago, I can't imagine trying to quit smoking the same time I was getting ready for this surgery. Good luck. Steve
Thanks for all your help but I think I knwo what I need to do atleast for the time being. I am only going to have 3 cigarettes a day, one after each meal to deal with the "habit" part of it. As for the eating I can handle this Pre-Op diet now that I went and got salad stuff to go with my meat every night. And I bought NO CARB snacks to stash at work just in case I have a weak moment. Here I go

Steve is right - after surgery your not hungry. My wife has quit smoking about 9 weeks ago. She has smoked most of her adult life. I can't imagine doing both at the same time. If you need to wine just post right here. That is what this is all about - supporting others. Good luck and just keep going.
OK Danielle.. Im with ya girl. If cheating on this pre-op diet is harmfull then Im on big trouble. I havent been able to stick to it at all. I have one week and I am now going to tighten the belt!! I know how hard it is.. especially knowing that lots of other people who have different Dr. can have what they want pre-op. Just do the best you can.. thats what Im doing. Drink lots of water.. Im sure thats going to help you when you feel the need to cheat. My problem isn't snacking. It is eating a meal at lunch and a meal at dinner. I went and bought my protein drinks for post-op and tried them. Stop drinking them Slim Fast that they told us to drink and drink the Whey Protein shakes. They are much better. Let me know if you need to chat about it. Im in the same situation over here!!
