Level 2 Aetna
I was lucky when dealing with Aetna. They gave me a case worker to deal with. When my paperwork was sent in I called and asked if there was anything else that they wanted. Instead of turning me down she told me that thre were just a couple of questions. You might want to just call them and ask what was missing and what did you need to do to get it approved. Atleast I found them very easy to talk to. If they tell you what you need and then you get it it will be hard for them to turn you down again. Good luck.
Audrey did they give you a reason for the denial? What Aetna do you have, HMO/PPO? I would follow the appreals as far as I could take them. According to their guidelines it is a procedure they cover based on BMI and weight loss attempts history. Who is your surgeon? Did they help you get the necessary paperwork together?
Good Luck!
Laurie
Audrey,
Sorry to hear about the denial. Hopefully I'm about to make you feel a little bit better! I was told by my surgeon's office assistant that Aetna gives you 3 times to appeal--- she said she had never seen a case where if the patient kept appealing that they continued to say no. So, go for it a second time, sounds like it will pay off for you. Good luck
