I'd like to know if any of you have Aetna HMO, possibly patients of Dr. Murr, and what if any problems you encountered getting approval? I am not yet to that point, but I want to make sure I have all of my bases covered. Thanks for any info.

I have Aetna HMO. The only hold up I had in getting approved was getting my file to Aetna. For some reason it took almost two months for my file to be sent to Aetna. Once it got there I was approved in like two weeks. I had letters of support from every doctor I had seen, the 26 week diet, five years of medical history, and I also got copies of all the scripts my pcp had written for me. Along with what Dr. Murr's office requested. Karee

I have Aetna HMO and it couldn't have gone better. I think the most important thing is to just have what they ask for. I had all of my papers ready and faxed in to my case worker and got a call from her within 20min that I wa approved. I then had to change Dr's since my first one was not able to do the surgery anymore. I switched to Dr. Murr and again everything was smooth. Good luck.

I have Aetna HMO and it wasn't a problem for me either. I just made absolutely sure I gave them exactly what they state they need and I was approved in less than 24 hours.

Thank you for the information. My BMI is 46 and I have the 6 months of medically documented weight loss attempt. My only fear was that I am otherwise healthy, besides the ususal 45 yr old aches and pains. I sure hope I get approval. I just got released from Spectra and hope to her from Dr. Murrs office within 2 weeks. I don't know how far out his surgery is scheduled yet but I am hoping for October , November at the latest.

Brian, thank you for the words of encouragement. I hope you are healing and feeling well. When you finished with Spectra, how long did it take for Dr. Murr's office to call you, and after seeing him, how many weeks was it until your actual surgery date? My Aunt is coming down to take care of me post-op and I need to give her an idea of when it will be so she can make arrangements.

My situation was a little bit different. I had been approved and scheduled for surgery with another doctor. that doctor was no longer able to perform the surgery because the hospital put the program on hold. Once I saw Spectra I was at Dr. Murr's office in about 1 week. It took about 1 week for the file to get to insurance approval, even though i had the approval they needed a new letter assigning it to them. That again took about 1 week and then I was scheduled for surgery about 2-3 weeks out. I have had a total of 29 surgeries. Without a doubt I have never dealt with a better Dr. or hospital staff than Dr. Murr and TGH. You are in great hands. Hang in there it will be done at the right time and all will be well.
