Not so patiently waiting.

I have been involved in this process for about 5 months. My PCP had me go through a whole battery of tests before he would recommend me for surgery. I finally got an appointment for a consult, saw the psychiatrist and thought I was good to go. Two months go by, I call the surgeon and find out I haven't "completed" my psych requirement. What I found out is the surgeon has all patients work with the therapist to practice the post-op diet, cope with strss eating, etc.... I have been going through that process for the last 4 weeks, my therapist says this should be completed by the end of next week. I am beginning to think I will never get a date. Advice for those getting involved in the process, get clear instructions for follow-up in writing!

Keep up your spirits. By the time I have surgery on the 17th it will have been 5 months. My doc's office up front stated it could take 5 months from onset to actual surgery. Hope you hear something soon. Julie

Susan, Hang in there. Everything I've read and/or been told says the approval process is a long, sloooooow one. I've been lucky, every one of my doctors have been extremely cooperative & helpful. They all see wls as my best hope for having a healthy, active life. I'm still in the "process" but it sounds like my request for insurance prior approval will be submitted next week. The surgeon's insurance gal says that will take about 6 weeks. So, I'll just wait (not so patiently, either) to hear from the insurance co. I keep telling myself that good things come to those who wait! We'll just have to learn to be patient together! Keep us posted on your progess! Vickie

Susan, I know you don't want to hear this, but I have found, that the more hoops your Dr. has you jump through before surgery, the better prepared you are for the surgery, and the better your chances of success are. So instead of being impatient, just tell yourself, the longer it takes the more successful I'll be. Good luck, Steve
