Wow way to go. As you start your journey, you will feel many things. The nausea is probaly from the annastisia(SP). I know that I was about 2 weeks out before I stopped feeling that. Nothing sounds good at all is your new stomache telling you it's not ready for heavy foods. Stick to you sugar free popsiciles and jello and water for a few more days. I still have the sf popsicile in the morning for my stomach to wake up. Let me know if I can help you. Tina

Robin, congratulations on your surgery and coming through fine and being home!! From what you've written, it all sounds normal from what I've read. I've been talking to Joy who had her surgery on the 9th and she's not been interested in eating, food, nor has been hungry at all since that date. She hasn't been nauseous, but I've read of many who are for a while. It passes.
I've read of lots of people who warn not to buy a whole ton of stuff for post-op because your taste buds can change very radically and what was fine pre-op is gross and totally unappetizing post-op.
I don't know if it helps nausea, but I've read that if you have any aches or pain at all, that walking makes a huge, positive difference even if you think it wouldn't.
Can't wait to hear more as you progress!!

April posted your questions on the main board and I just want to tell you that everything is normal. Your taste buds will return, the nauseous feeling will subside and you will eventually get an appetite. I experienced everything you are going through. I still am unable to tolerate the protein meal replacements. I am able to drink Whey Protein though.
It does get better, just make sure you drink your water. It is the most important part in this journey.
Good luck.

Hi Robin!
I had surgery five weeks ago. I found the first week, I didn't want to eat much of anything, and to this day, I don't like the shakes, although I loved them pre-op. I found that anything cold, like SF popcicles, went down easy. There wasn't much of a choice on that full liquid menu, and then I was bombarded with TV food commercials.
Now, I still have problems with the protein, getting it all in when I can only eat a couple of bites at a time, but have found that shelled, roasted, unsalted pumpkin seeds are high in protein. Of course they aren't as good as the white ones that I ate when I was a kid, but the roasted ones have 75 g. of protein per 1/2 cup. Of course you can't eat them, yet. But keep it in mind in a few weeks.
During the liquid stage, I would drink milk with a squirt of chocolate in it for taste. I found that it went down OK and tasted better than the shakes. If I made it real cold with ice cubes, it tasted like Yoohoo.

Hello Robin,
Glad to have you home and safe! You are finally going to be a loser and I am sure you are superr excited!
1. I think some nausea is normal. Everyone is different so may feel a little more nasuea or none at all.
2. I know for me nothing sounded good at all and I am still trying to get thru the yuck food and the foods that sit well with me.
My new found love is soup! I eat lots of soup!
3. I have yet to drink portein shakes, but perhaps as some times passes you'll do better on yours.
4. The nervous thing I went thru as well, I didn't want to be alone and I cried like a baby every morning when Milton had to leave for work. Luckily this does pass.
5. My taste buds are so different then before and my mouth tasted like metal for a few weeks. Icouldn't even stand the "taste" of water! Now things are tasteing better and I can finally drink the water.
Good Luck to you Robin,
Michelle.
Hello Robin! Congrats on a successful surgery! I'm a month out and I only felt nauseous the first week--- But, I had a cast iron stomach before surgery and my new one is so far proving to be a "mini me" of the original
...
Anyway, I can relate on having different tastes. Before surgery, I would pick a piece of cake over a sandwich anyday. Now it's the opposite. My craving for sweets has gone waaaay down and I find myself looking forward to eating salty foods.
Good luck and hope you lose all you hope to and hope you stay healthy
