How long out of work after surgery?

Hi Everyone, I will be having the lap RNY and I wondered about how long it took some of you before you felt good enough to go to work. I am planning on taking 3 weeks off, that includes the time I am in the hospital. I would think that should be enough. What do you think?

Marcie, it really depends on what you do for a living. I sat at a desk all day, when I had surgery. I hAd open RNY on a Friday, went home on Suday, was working from on on tuesday, and went back to work the following Wednesday. So I went back to work 12 days after surgery. Also, is it possible for you to work half days for the first few days, so that you sort of work up to it. Good luck.

Wow! Maybe I won't need 3 weeks. Then again, it would be nice to milk it, you know? heheh

I had open rny but had the brillian idea I'd only take off 3 days. Fortunately, I have a wonderful manager who encouraged me to use std instead and to do that required me to take off at least 10 days. Two weeks off was exactly what I needed. Three would've been nice just to nap more, but physically I felt fine. But I can say even though I have a desk job, there's no way I would've been ready to go back to work after 3 days! Good luck !!
