Frustration in gaining weight

So back in February I was told by the psychologist at Spectra that I should work towards losing 10% of my body weight. Keep in mind, I am on the lower side of weight compared to most who are getting the surgery. I think I was at 245lbs when I went to spectra. So, I tried and tried and I lost maybe 3 pounds. I told him this, told him I changed my eating habits (which I really have!). He said it was fine and my file went off to Dr. Murr after I completed 3 months of therapy. Well, somehow, someway, I gained like 10pounds. I am really nervous about this because I am afraid that after all the work I have done to get to this point, Dr. Murr is going to turn me away or he is going to tell me that I have to lose weight before he operates on me. Do any of you think this will happen? I am not familiar with what happens during the consultation (after you have jumped through hoops for 8 months!) Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Marcie, I don't know what DR. Murr's policy is, I know my surgeon would like for you to lose weight before surgery, but it isn't a requirement. His thoughts are if you could lose weight on your own, you wouldn't be having surgery in the first place. You need to find out if this a psychologist recommendation, or a physician requirement. Good luck.

When I went on the physcian supervised program, I too only lost about 3 pounds. I thought that was great considering it was over the Christmas Holiday. I think they just want to see that you are making an effort. After I was appoved, I gained 10 pounds on my "last meal"....lol. Hope this helps you see that you are not alone. Christine

I am having Dr. Murr do my surgery. I did not have to go through the diet program, I was approved for another Dr. that is no longer doing the surgery, so it was not required. They did mention that they would like for me to try to lose waite but there was not a magical number. I'm sure they will understand. If the diets worked we wouldn't be there with them in the first place. I had my pre-op with them today. They have all been a pleasure to deal with. My date is 8/17. Good luck.

Yup! I have the same problem! I was 255 at Spectra. I lost 4#. Now I have regained the 4 and an additional 6# so we are in the same boat! I was approved by my insurance on 7/27...and still holding for a surgery date...I hope I get a date from Susan at Dr. Murr's office today!
