have u had 2 go back 2 liquids?
Hi,
At 2 days post op I was eating soft eggs with no problem. Now, for the last 3 weeks I feel as if they are stuck in my throat. (I had surgery 8 weeks ago) all I can eat is yogurt, cottage cheese and protein drinks. I am diabetic so things like apple sauce have to be limited. I am also worried about enough protein. My concern comes from hearing how so many are eating almost everything by now. I have a doctor appt. next wed. but wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this??
Lizz,
First of all, there are a few reasons this might happen that arent related to what you are eating at all but HOW you are eating.
1) you could be eating too fast 2) not taking small enough bites
3) drinking with food or not waiting long enough before or after you eat
Food gets stuck in my throat for all of the above reasons.
Most doctors want their patients to stay on soft or pureed foods for longer than three weeks, I was supposed to stay on soft foods from week 2-6. I did add a few things early that I could tolerate like crackers, mixed greens and fruit earlier than I was supposed to. What can I say, I am a rebel at times. But now I am paying for it because I dont tolerate meat well at all.
It's either Murphy's Law or Divine Intervention
Here are some soft food suggestions that Dame Tooter posted on the main board a week or so ago when someone else was struggling with their soft foods :
Soft poached eggs, chopped fine, soft scrambled eggs - kind of runny, hot cereal, mashed taters, mashed yams, mashed turnips, tuna and egg salads (you can combine them too), sugar-free sorbet, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, moz cheese sticks, squeeze cheese, bananas, peanut butter, cream cheese, mashed berries, canned peaches - I mashed these - same with canned pears, chili (meat pureed, if need be), over-cooked broccoli/cauliflower to mushy, corned beef hash, watermelon, flan, custard, soft fish, crab, avocados, refried beans with or without cheese, cream of rice, grits (good with cheese, or sliced and fried with sugar-free syrup)...not all of these will be on YOUR doctors approved list.
I saved this for myself because I have been struggling with solids and liked some of her suggestions for myself. I wouldnt go back to full liquids unless I was struggling with ALL soft foods, then I probably would get my doctor involved to make sure everything was OK. They say some of us just take longer to acclimate to new foods than others. I did so good in the beginning and now I'm struggling, but I know it will get better.
Keep the faith

OK, I just re-read your post and saw that you are 8 weeks out and not three. So sorry! Well, maybe you and I can have a pity party together because I feel your pain
I have been trying more of the soft foods Tooter listed to help add some variety to my diet, but meat is still not an option
and if you only knew how badly I want some chicken.
