Need Different PCP - Jax, FL

Please Help!!! I have been researching WLS for over 2 years. I started the process about a year ago and received a lot of push back from my PCP. Over the past year I've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, Underactive Thyroids and high blood pressure. I've been working on getting all of this under control. I am now ready to persue the surgery. My current PCP does not support the surgery nor will he write a letter. I have tried different avenues and it's just not working. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Options. Does anyone else have this insurance in the Jacksonville/Orange Park area that has a PCP that they are working with and is supportive of them and the surgery? Wow! I had the same problem. I am using Dr. Stephen R. Young on San Jose Blvd. He is in the Mandarin Oaks Family practice. 904-260-1319 I liked him at first visit. I am actually going back to him Thurs and I drive 5 hours to get there. He is very familiar with the surgeon I am going to use. He was fast to start getting all the test etc, together. Do you have a surgeon yet. I haven't even met mine yet but will meet him also Aug 5. He is Dr. Webb. His office is beside Memorial hospital and he works through an office in Orange Park. Susan, Megan and Lindsey are very helpful and have really put my nerves to ease.Of course so has this board.(please all STAND UP AND TAKE A BOW) These are great people. Good luck on your journey. I can't help you with the first part of your question but Dr Webb is truly wonderful! I had WLS with him on May 25th and have never had a moment's problem. He is also very kind and patient.

Thank you Kallen, you are the 2nd person that responded regarding Dr. Webb. Right now I'm using Dr. Overcash, however I have not yet finished getting my documents together so I will look into him as well. Thanks again! -Jenn

Thank you Carol!! My surgeon is Dr. Overcash. I haven't looked into Dr. Webb yet, but I heard that he wants a large down payment for the surgery, which I don't have. I will look into Dr. Young, thanks again for all of your help and encouragement!! -Jenn

Jenn, Hello! I go to the San Jose Family Practice (I believe they're connected to the University of North Florida) at the corner of San Jose and University. There's two doctors there, both women. The main one is Dr Mary Feagans and the other is Dr Brooke McCrea. I was Dr Feagan's patient but I got Dr Brooke by chance once and liked her so much better and stayed with her. When I decided to do this, Dr Brooke made sure I understood and had researched the surgery and then she gave her blessing. Dr. Brooke I think is especially helpful because she herself struggles with her weight and understands what we deal with. Hope this helps and good luck!
